Reports say that competitor Google is offering to help Yahoo! keep Microsoft at bay.

It is embarrassing getting help from a competitor also you do not know what Google help might be. But I guess thats only thing Google can do at the moment, they can't jump into the takeover bandwagon for fear of anti trust. Still I feel Microsoft stands a good chance, granted that Yahoo doesn't like Google or Microsoft, but at present Microsoft looks the lesser of the two evils.

I don't know if it would turn out to be better or worse, but it just doesn't sound good to me.

Well something like that, but Google should be drawn much bigger, both Microsoft and Google are huge, Google about 2/3 the size of Microsoft while Yahoo is the poor dinosaur in between

well i think the deal looks great but i do not think Microsoft should take over Yahoo because yahoo is one of the largest email service providers and if all these accounts are in the hands of Microsoft, who knows what they will do to them.
they will probably create another monopoly like the one they have created in software business. this will reduce competition and result into poor services.
so i do not think its a good deal.

Yahoo and Hotmail are losing share to Gmail, it is good that Microsoft takes over to enhance Yahoo Mail and their Hotmail. There won't be a monopoly, enough free email services, ISP email providers such as AOL existed.

Microsoft posted a press release about it. It's amazing how many people got hold of that news as soon as Microsoft announced their plans publicly.

This is a major M & A and it also affects webmasters and anyone on the Internet, it would not be surprising if everyone is talking about it.

Maybe, but note that only Google is a monkey here, while Yahoo & MS are drawn as dinosaurs :)

Did anyone ever read that blog post somewhere about the guy who predicted this would happen?

He gave like 10 reasons why it would be stupid for MS to not do this move. Smart guy.

I can't tell the last time I even visited Yahoo. Kind of sad that a company that controls the desktop and has every new copy of IE set to their home page can't compete without buying out a competitor

Well the combination of traffic from both MSN and yahoo should make their PPC a little better. Might be interesting.

You are wrong about Disney which owns the Disney and Universial theme parks plus multiple other locations. Newscorp owns how many news companies and publishing companies so they do count as tangible stocks. Google owns nothing. The day they have their assests backed up is the day I start looking for investment.

Remember what happened to AOL, Amazon, Yahoo and Netscape....let that be a warning to Google.

Today is a 300 point drop, such drops are advantages to Microsoft, the lower Yahoo shares are perceived without Microsoft bid, the more is Microsoft chance of getting Yahoo, Dun even dare to look at some of those shares today :( Bernanke isn't here to cut another 50 basis points?
