Web 1.0 design for mature people?

Why Craigslist and Wikipedia have Web 1.0 look (and are not about to change it)?
When visiting Web 2.0 sites (glossy, shiny logos and labels, gay colors, stripes..) do you feel immature? Do you feel like those sites were made especially for teenagers?

Do you know any other successful website made only for adults (except porn)? Has it Web 1.0 or Web 2.0 design?

I'm trying to redesign my site, but I always get the feeling that there is nothing to redesign concerning the look of the site.

I've never really understood the web 2.0 look. Maybe it's because i'm older and not a gen-y type, but i don't really like it on most sites. Another thing is that there is still a large number of people on dialup, and your site still needs to load in a reasonable amount of time. just my 2 cents.

Web 2.0 isn't just about design, it's about functionality and interactivity. Though wikipedia has a web 1.0 look, it is fact a web 2.0 site.

I'm toolking about the web 2.0 look, not functionality.

Well I opened this topic because I am developing websites for those not so familiar with computers, 45+ yrs old. And as webtarded brought it up, it might be true that these people don't have the latest hardware nor software. 800x600 screen resolution, no java script, dial-p connection and so on.

Do you know any popular site that still sticks to Web 1.0 design look?

    it's not a web 1.0 or 2.0 looks that's matters...

what really matters is to design what's best for your targeted audience...

if you're targeting a mature people, put yourself on their perspective...is the design annoys me? is the design can clearly delivered the message that it meant to be given?

    well, it's just my $0.02 :D

Have to agree with others, 2.0 and 1.0 is purely about functionality not "looks". If you look at template sites there are a few that have a 2.0 category but to date I have seen no common theme amongst them.

    [a]wa is 100% correct.
Your main priority, always, should be to create a site that is easy and pleasing to navigate as well as being well suited for your target audience.
