What would Jesus do?

Jesus would not go to war.

    Let me explain.

I've read the new testament but I've probably been to church less than three times in my life. Being of a reasonable intelligence and having not been indoctrinated with any kind of dogma, through my own interpretation I can only come to the following conclusion of what a real christian would do when it comes to war.

A real christian would be forced to submit to persecution if a person chose to persecute them, and to love their enemy.

Even if this meant death for them and their family.

Salvation cannot be found in the world according to Jesus so you must repent. If you judge and kill others you have not truly repented and you are not following the two most important commandments according to Jesus. If you seek to 'right' the wrongs of the world then you seek salvation in the world and not salvation in God.

There are many 'christian' teachings which I do not subscribe to (like Jesus died on the cross for my sins) but nevertheless Jesus had many wise words like these:

The words in the gospels are generally simple and straight forward. A life of peace and non-violence is the only logical conclusion an intelligent person can come to if they read the new testament and they believe the words. What are your thoughts? Do you disagree? If so why?

You know there are so many people that spend so much time preaching and in the meantime there are millions of people around the world going hungry or dying. I think jesus would us to spread his word through kindness, love , understanding and charity. I feel alot of evangalists spend too much time preaching then helping their fellow human beings. We are all connected in the lords eyes and if you pass by this life turning others away just to live like a king then you have no heart and no true love. Also christianity should never be spread through the blade of a sword. Jesus himself even said he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword. Maybe pat robertson
missed this saying when he was calling for the head hugo chavez.

We need more love in this world. By love i mean more unselfish caring.

I think you are a little bit confused about our God. Our God on several occassions in the bible stood up for the Christian faith. In fact, in Jude 1:3 it tells us to "contend" for the faith. The bible doesn't say that Christians have to be ran over or persecuted to go to heaven. On the same token, contending does not necessarily mean to kill or murder those who don't have the same beliefs as ours. This is the faith of the radical muslims.

You sure about that? Have not studied history before? Inquisitions, Conquistador to name a couple, did not just spread love around if you know what I mean.

Religion for centuries has been used as a tool to control people and has been violent. To insinuate that ONLY Muslims are violent is shallow and bias.

    guru-seo,

If you really think that the Christians of today believe that way then you are living under a rock. I never said there have been no murders committed by Christians, I simply said that this is not what our faith is about. I also want to point out I was referring to radical muslims, not muslims in general. Re-read my post before making assumptions about something or someone you know nothing, or very little, about. :)

The bible tells us to submit to all governing authorities, unless it causes us to sin. If we are asked to sin, we can refuse. Jesus would not go to war. This is something i struggle with every day. I am a proud person, and like to stand up for myself. But Jesus says if a man slaps us in the face, we should willingly turn the other cheek and allow it to be smacked as well.

Being slapped as an insult or having your family threatened or attacked are totally different. guru can come over here and slap me and call me names, etc... I won't even cry about it. Slap me a few times and it will be taken as aggression. I will fight back. Slap one of my kids or wife and that will be the last slap you ever give.

As a father and husband there are some things that rank very high in priorities. Protecting my wife and children are one of the top.

I do not believe Jesus would say that was wrong to protect my family, but I do believe the opposite to be true.

If you only look at the new testament and Jesus, you may have forgot the same God in the old testament encouraged fighting by the men such as Moses, David, and many other bible hero's. The Bible was only used as a guide to how to live, as with today, it changed with the times. Here is an article I wrote on the Bible.

Personal attack? lol I said you can come over and slap me or call me names.

    Hypocritical?

oh well, I don't usually take your attacks personally anyways, since you attack across the board equally to anyone who disagrees with you.

I totally agree with this point. No, don't go to war for revenge or any other unrighteous purpose, but don't just stand there while your family or nation is under attack just because you "don't believe Jesus would go to war."

Also, I don't believe God would hold us accountable for lives that we took because of a requirement by the government. If I was drafted to join the war, I would not resist. I believe God wants us to obey the law of the land. (see Mark 12:17)

    ...IMHO

Interesting thoughts, now what do you think of these sayings:

Salvation cannot be found in the world according to Jesus so you must repent. If you judge and kill others you have not truly repented and you are not following the two most important commandments according to Jesus. If you seek to 'right' the wrongs of the world then you seek salvation in the world and not salvation in God.

That's interesting that you value these commandments as the most important.

I see Matthew 28:19-20 as the most important. It was the last thing he said before he ascended.

However, I agree that Jesus would no go to war if he was asked to in his days on earth. But, from what I have learned, he has waged war in Revelation 12:7-9 and will wage war again soon. Revelation 19:11-16.

This is not man's war. But God's war. Totally different.
