SEO will always be a hot topic, absolutly. But again, it depends what you want to get out of it... or what your long term goals are.
Yeah, I ask because I see people *only* show up on these boards when directories are for sale. And it got me thinking, maybe I should buy some for myself lol.
Its fair to say that the majority of directories end up putting your link on a page with little or no ranking that's buried in their site, you get an initial boost because they will put a link from their homepage for their lastest premium links, but after a few weeks the link moves. Why pay for links when you can have as many as you want for free anyway.
If you see a directory with PR6 or PR7 with less backlinks in google or a notice a dropped domain do not buy it. Directories 90% sold are junk. No one sells their quality directory, some do but expect $$$$ prices tags for them.
Any more tips on recognizing a good directory from a lousy one? I see tons of directories for sale almost everyday. How will we know the difference?
How directories are sold by some people: Pick up a domain like Iamafool.com its PR5 so install a directory script on it. Announce it as a free web directory! Tons of submission comes... initial 2 months expect high end traffic. Sell some links, some revenue too comes. Convert to paid for 1$ links, revenue still comes. - Now sell saying high traffic directory with revenue! ^^ That's the way it goes on. How to check if a directory is worth buying. - See the domain name. - Check with fake PR tools if PR is fake. - Search google, yahoo for its backlinks & indexed pages. - See the links approved in the directory. - See the theme/skin being used. - Check if sponsored links placed on the directory were permanent in nature, check sold links nature. ---- Most Imp: Check the domain in wayback see what it was days/months back to verify if its a genuine directory. - Buy a directory thats been a directory from its birth or a directory for atleast 1year. - Lastly if you feel you can't make you if directory is worth buying, bring the directory name to this section, expect honest response.
Great tips! Why is it important to only accept quality links? And how can you tell what is "quality" and what is not?
Thats mostly up to you, we all have our ideas of what is quality, depends how you gauge things, some people wouldn't accept lingerie sites while i think it is perfectly fine. Some accept pharmacy sites while i dont, i dont accept guns and knives sites but you may have a niche directory so of course you will want those types of sites. I dont do gambling but plenty do, their sites look good quality but im too concerned about paypal to take the risk.
I think that soon directories just won't be used anymore Why? No one really needs them, except webmasters who want to get better pagerank And I hope Google will ignore such back links as fast as possible
a typical "low quality" directory is something with a domain of ahyak.com, tyika.com, kqyu.com or some other nonsense like that. Nowadays, quality directories are not just directories of links, but directories of content and resources as well.
check the directory age, indexed pages, google cache, design, promotion etc.. to get an idea about the quality of a directory.
That is sort of like saying it is good to invest in stocks? It certainly is but it depends which kind. Nowadays I would not recommend entering the directory market if you just intend to make a duplicate copy of the ten's of thousands of run-of-the-mill directories that are released everyday.
Since you mentioned "stocks", would say, that like the stock market, it is best to stay in for the long haul than than to expect a instant return with a directory. Those in it for the long haul tend to garner a lot more respect, and staying power than those that are bought and sold at the drop of a hat.
I agree, sort of....I am in the directory industry for the long-haul but I did sell off a few of my general directories to focus on more complex niche directory based projects. But yes, if you are looking to make some quick cash I don't think you will achieve that these-days in the directory industry.
