AdSense is website advertisement and not affiliate product. Affilite marketing is selling a specific product via your uniqe link and you get a commision of the sales page if you lead customers. Only a blog will not help you earn from affiliate marketing. Try reading a lot of big affiliates and their advices like the blog of Zac Johnson.

There isn't one right way to do things. A winning formula is one that incorporates many different techniques, programs, and other factors such as niche, traffic, conversion rates, etc. You must constantly read, learn, and experiment with your website and different formulas in order to find the one that works for you and makes money.

Yes, affiliate programs make money and can actually work. They would not be in existence if they didn't. Do they make a lot of money? They most certainly can, but it's not a guarantee, you must work hard and find your winning formula. You can't just plop an ad on your site and expect it to magically send you a check every month.

I don't know what do you mean by that but start with something you have some knowledge about, like if you know about music - promote music products.

well I suspect some area's sell better then others? like do books do particulary well? or toys? or software?

    before you said

but which is better? lets say I wanted to sell books, do I start a blog about blogs and then add some affiliate ads on that page? or do I buy some domain like buylotsofbooks.com and make the front page really simple but with lots of affilaite ads?

Heck yeah. The original PPC ( pills, porn, casino) have always done really well, although recently casino has taken a hit due to US legislation, but if you have trafic outside of the US, casino still does well.

Toys, books, software - they are all looked in the internet, so it depends on your promotion abilities and on competition from other affiliates. The performance rate depends on your abilities to be able to sell. ;)

I would prefer to start a blog. It is just more easier to add new content and search engines (probably) love blogs more than regular sites.

ok cool, so then once you have your blog, you just add your affiliate advertising to the front page of the blog somewhere? or do you create a totally new front page under a different domain name (e.g lotsofbooks.com) where you stick all of your affiliate ad's and then link to that from the blog?

blog traffic is not very responsive to affiliate product such as amazon and adsense. you got a high PR site but I'm a bit surprise when you that you only get small traffic. I know why you get small traffic. because your homepage doesn't have a title or any keyword phrases that you want to target.

It is better if your landing pages look more "natural" and are in blog-post format, looking more like a product review, than a sales page. ;)
