Ok I want to start a few ebay affiliate sites, I bought PHPBay Pro and am trying to figure out what's next. I downloaded wordpress but can't seem to figure out to how to use it much less with PHPBay. Do I now go get a domain name and hosting location for my sites and then sign up for CJ?
It may have been prudent to get the OK from CJ before buying phpBay Pro. If they don't accept you you will have wasted your money. OK, lets think positive then shall we?! Firstly, do some research on what eBay niche you want to attack. Then register a domain name and sort out hosting. Install Wordpress (most hosting companies will have this automated for you) and tinker with it until you understand how it works. Install phpBay Pro and away you go! It will be a bit of a learning curve for you but you will end up being a better person for it.
At what point should I sign up for CJ then? after all the hosting, domain, installing PHPBay? What reasoning could they have not to accept me?
There's no use in even thinking about phpBay/BANS etc until you've signed up with CJ and been accepted into the eBay program.
Just put up a single page site with some decent content - make sure it has a privacy policy. As long as your site doesn't look like garbage, then you should have no problems. eBay auto reject some publishers purely based on location, so you might want to consider that when signing up with CJ.
Does it matter what content? Like does it have to be related to ebay or just a site about something that is nice?
As long as it's not a porn/hate/spam site, then it should be ok. Doesn't have to be related to eBay - actually probably better if it's not. Once you've got your domain and website up, just post it here before you apply to CJ. I'm sure if there's anything glaringly awful about it, somebody at DP will let you know
You can ready my commission Junction eBook called Triangle Marketing it is quite helpful and is free. http://www.videoblogtraining.info/TriangleMarketing.pdf Good Luck
Buy a domain first, then join Hostgator for one cent here: http://www.hostingdiary.com/2007/09/web-hosting-cou.html Once you have a site up apply to CJ. Andrew
Ok just 3 more questions. 1) Anyone know any good sites that sell cheap domains? (Been hearing there are places to get .infos for cheap) 2) Any good tutorials on using wordpress to make my site? 3) After making the site, signing up with commission junction, getting PHPBay running what should I look to do to create traffic? OH! and one more thing, am I supposed to use the wordpress that you download and install on your server or can I use the web based one and still use PHPBAy?
1) Lots of people buy their domains at godaddy.com 2) I don't have a tutorial, but Wordpress and eBay work well together. You can either use phpBayPro, or write your own script using eBay's RSS feed or API. Just pick a nice WP theme and start posting. 3) Get backlinks, add a bookmark to all the social bookmarking sites, add your site to some quality directories. 4) Use the version from wordpress.org, and install it on your own hosting. I'm 99% sure the free hosted version won't let you modify anything.
It is against eBay's TOS (and trademark policy) to use eBay in your domain, or subdomain. Read the TOS
ebay is trademarked as such it is against their TOS for you to use it. They consider even embedded in another word in your domain is a breach of their copyright and they will eventually pursue you and or block your commissions. so don't even think about it. It really is not worth it and at the end of the day it is not really going to bring you in any more sales.
Cool, this is all very exciting, working right now on getting the first site going. With this kind of thing I'm assuming it makes seance to make many sites rather than focusing on just one. Thank you for all your help guys. Gonna try getting the first one up and we'll see how it goes.
thats right, make one, get some traffic happening and then move onto the next one. small commissions at times but its all in the numbers.
@ rock122 - I'd suggest buying a non specific or 'nonsense' domain that you can use for anything. If you have a decent host, you'll be able to setup unlimited stores on subdomains - e.g football.domain.com, movies.domain.com etc...
