Moving Domains - redirect or what?

    Hello.

My orginal site was http://www.freeipodsetc.com which I did quite a bit of SEO on and got first page for a lot of keywords. However, the design was shite and also I wanted to target UK traffic so I bought www.freeipodsetc.co.uk. This has the same content and more but of course has no SEO work done on it as of now.

At the moment I've just redirected http://www.freeipodsetc.com to the .co.uk site.

Is this the best thing to do? What else do you suggest?

Also any comments on the design of the site is welcome.

And any SEO tips for blogs would be appreciated too.

    Cheers all

Redirecting is fine, as long as the site structure is exactly the same and you use a 301 redirect in the .htaccess for your old domain (no domain redirect offered by a registrar!!!) to the new one. This way even PR and link juice is transferred, but it takes some time and changing as many links as possible to the new domain is a good idea.

so I shouldn't use the automatic redirect on hostgator?

And I just need to edit the htaccess once then obviously changed the links on the new domain to match the old ones so PR and link juice is transferred :p

That's what's in my htaccess file atm.
