It depends on how many other links are on those pages. If there are 5-10 links on the page, you'll get quite a boost from it. If there are 300 links on the page, you won't see much of a change at all.
Does it really matter? You should be worried about building quality related backlinks, not high PR only backlinks.
Yes, ur PR will increase but How much? only google knows that anyway. it also depends on the number of out bound links on the PR 8 or 7page.
Is that site related to yours? A there many outbound links? All that is important. If there are less than 20-30 total links, then you will get a pretty good boost from it, but don't expect a miracle.
If the page you have a link on has less than 50 outbound links, a PR7 link should bring your site to PR5 and a PR8 link will bring your site to PR6. Of course, no one can "guarantee" you a PR5 site with just one PR7 link, but I would say you should expect to get a solid toolbar PR5 site with little effort if you are able to get a PR7 link from a non-linkfarm site. However, to get a better SERP, you will still need to take into account of the theme or niche of the two sites.
Two probable outcomes -- If you buy the links- chances are you might get caught. If you do not get caught, - you will get PR6 (in case of PR8 link) and very high ranking for the Anchor Word that would link you from that PR8 page. But it will be temporary as Google seems to find all links that have been bought or sold. Second outcome is -- You get the link as editorial vote for the quality relevant contents your site provides. In that case- you will not get punished - you will get PR6, and big boost for numerous keywords which are on contents for your site.
A genuine PR8 link may land you at the top of the SERP for the keyword used as Anchor Text. And yes, you might get a PR5~PR6 for that link only.
