Never knew that.. glad they didn't sell I did know that the people who made the first layout were colorblind: http://web.archive.org/web/19981202230410/http://www.google.com/
Source? Google wasn't put up for sale (and if it was put up for sale, someone would have already bought it). It was incorporated in 1998, far from mid-1990s.
Weird insn't it, you would probably add around 8 zero's to that figure to get google's current value!
That wouldn't have mattered anyways, unless you were to do everything that Google has done up to this point.
To me it seems like one of those stories to make people go wow! When Google became Google they had a few thousand worth of hardware, and a few years working on backrub so i can hardly see them selling it for $100
I thought that google was started by two guys with a 100,000$ budget? I don't think it was beiing sold later for 100$
Google went to venture capitalists when they needed money and received $100 000 from two firms; I can't see the site ever being for sale for $100 with that kind of investment behind it.
Ha! This is even funnier: Google 'Stickers' (check out the bottom) http://web.archive.org/web/19990224043535/www.google.com/stickers.html
