    Hi all,
As per the yesterday news Microsoft has offered yahoo $ 44.6 billions.
If Microsoft will purchase yahoo than what would be the effect on Google business.
Microsoft can combine facilities of live search and yahoo search and could make a better Search engine.
Will Microsoft make better Search engine than Google ?
    Comments please.

This question doesn't belong here. No, I don't think so. This will only accelerate Google efforts to make sure the other two don't catch up. The question isn't who has the better engine but rather which one is the most used. You could probably get decent results from all except you don't Microsoft or Yahoo anything, but you Google everything. Get my point?

I dunno what actually happen to MS. they're so slow in the SE biz. I'm sure that's the only quick way for them to capture the SE market segment or risk of losing them.

It will, I consider it a strategic move, buying into something which Microsoft is not strong in. I expect Microsoft not only to invest heavily in R&D to get Yahoo search to rival that of Google but also merging of their email systems, common IDs for everything as well a Microsoft using Yahoo as their platform to launch their apps products.

This combination is really a deadly combination for Google. But Google is known for innovation, it may yet leapfrog the duo. Will be a very interesting fight for sure!

Of course this will be heavy fight against Google,
But how they make common id's for both yahoo and hot mail.
eg. if a id like and ,
    how MS will resolves it,
Should it block all old yahoo id's, or provide unique no. to avoid duplication of yahoo and hot mail ids.

All these are high stakes gambles, for us small time webmasters the fall out may be great, Microsoft might just want to rejuvenate YPN and compete against Adsense, it such a scenario, we finally have a choice :)

MS not only going to purchase yahoo search.
How MS will converts yahoo brands to MS brands that is the big questions.
Still if combination of yahoo and live search, i don;t think would be better than Google search. What you say ?

A lot of times, the better technology doesn't win, who expects MS DOS and later Microsoft Windows to be predominant? I think with good branding and reasonable results, Microsoft might just pull it off.

There will be teething problems during the integration, but Microsoft seemed to have it prepared beforehand with its Live Login, I expect them to integrate Yahoo mail and groups into this.

Yahoo portals such as Finance etc are very popular, being the Number 1 or 2 most visited sites in the world, Microsoft will surely leverage on that to give it more clout for advertising.

YPN and those laggards, Microsoft can finetune Yahoo YPN technology and make it a threat to Adsense, remembering that advertising is the mainstay of Google's revenue, any dent to it will surely give Google a headache. At this point of time we see Google being on the offensive trying to launch apps online against Microsoft. I expect a reversal of fortunes, with Google having to be on the defensive with strong attacks upon its traditional core competencies.

    Yes Dear,

Microsoft makes $44.6 billion bid for Yahoo.

The offer was made last night and announced this morning. The $31-a-share offer is a 62% premium over Yahoo's closing price of $19.18 on Thursday.

    There are many points like,

A combination of Microsoft and Yahoo could reshape the Internet landscape for millions of Web users: Would the two companies join their online portals?

Could they rethink the Desktop Computer to integrate Web content more directly?

The changes are potentially huge, but probably not in the short term.

    Thanks
    Jay

Such huge acquisitions takes time to integrate before they can really perform but some of the units may just make a headstart before others as it is time crucial, getting a slice of the growing advertising pie for eg , every day wait is millions in wasted revenue.

From industrial sources, Microsoft has an 80% chance of succeeding this time, it is fun to see!

If MS will over take Google than there might be lots of changes in SEO and SEM industry.
MS can have it MS toolbar with MR ( Microsoft Rank ) for websites.

This is not likely at least a take over isn't it will be more likely a merger, but I do not see that in the foreseeable future.

    As Bloomtools said,
Microsoft will have their Tool bar containing MR. ( Microsoft Rank ).
    That's good idea.
So now SEO won't be considering only Google guidelines, it's now time to look on msn guidelines also.
    Thanks,
    Chaitanya.

Then it'll be very easy to get good Microsoft Rank because MSN or Live SERPs are so easy to be beaten.
