those stats aren't nice at all, look at the average time on the site and the bounce rate. Honestly, I think that ads aren't effective if they are in rotation, because part of buying an ad is branding, and rotation minimizes that effect.

Mattaw101 are totally right. Branding is important when buying image ads. But the placement and the fact that its in rotation makes it hard to brand anything.

exactly, which is why i agree with staale, While I love Shoemoneys blog, i feel the adtoll spot, could just be sold like a normal ad spot. It would a) sell fast and have a wait, and b) SM could keep all of the profits for himself instead of having to share with adtoll

that's a super high bounce rate. Even at $4 I wouldn't bother, I'd rather write articles or do something else more targeted.

that's actually poor. clickthru rate is just 0.63% and the average time spent by the users are also just way too minimal..

Your 125x125 ad didn't even suggest where people would be going if they clicked it. If I saw a cartoony viking man, I would think I'd be going to some RPG-related website.

Sure it did. It was animated and contained the following text:
"There's a new guy in town"
"I show you how to monetize"
    "Visit my blog today".

So that should give you a pretty good idea:) But I'm the first to admit that the banner could be better. Anyway, looking at the overall stats at adtoll the spot got a CTR of around 0,50. So I where actually getting higher ctr then the avreage. :)

I wasn't aware it was animated.

So your ad is on rotation, and the copy of your ad is on rotation as well? ;)

Exactly.... you pre-qualify users with your ad media so when they go to your site and their expectation isn't met they will bounce.

Another reason for the high bounce rate is that your blog doesn't encourage further clicks... I went to your site to see your article and thats all I wanted to see, there was no reason for me to click anywhere else. You have all your content on their on your main site, so people click, read what they have to and bounce off.

With regards to branding, your paying for what you get. If Show had ONE ad in the rotation you'd be paying ten times the amount. You are still getting the value of branding based on what you've paid and users are still viewing your ad.

Ruby, as I wrote further up the ad is animated. Anyway, sure somebody might clicked it and though they came to a RPG site.

And I don't complain about the bounce rate, but the time spent on site, which are 1 sec. Now, Analytics might not be right all the time, and I'm sure i got one or two people reading some of my stuff. :)

And you are totally right about the branding part. Its cheap because of the rotation, and you get what you pay for BUT I don't think he could sell that spot for $40 per day! ($1200/month) Its much easier to sell the spot chopped up to smaller advertisers.

But that said, if you could make a decent banner which you know converts I'm sure advertising on this spot could work out just fine.

Theres a lot to consider when advertising such ad ad media, landing page and how you entice and guide your users on your site to make them do what you want.... whether that be read an article or buy a product.

    whats up with this:

    13 clicks
    66.67% NEW visitors,

that means that 4 of your clicks were from previous visitors, so your $4 only really netted you 8 new visits.

I dont think its a great result, BUT the sample we are looking at here is WAY TO SMALL to make any real claims as to whether its worth doing.

I disagree, you wouldn't be paying 10x the amount, lets see, John Chow.com's advertising for a month in a very visible 125x125 spot...

    $500 per month (http://www.johnchow.com/advertise/)
lets break that down to per day: $16....

Thats roughly what Shoe's ad space should cost per day per 125x125 ad then, not the $40 you predicted.

So i disagree with that point.
