Who is the Inhouse Stumble Master?

So I am getting about 500 hits a day total on 2 different posts from SU. This has been going on for about a week now and it doesnt seem to be stopping. The only problem is that by looking at stats/converstions is that most of the Stumblers take 1-3 minutes to read the article, give it a thumbs up and then leave.

maybe %1 at best actually goes anywhere else on the site or clicks on something.

Right now all the traffic is doing is eating up bandwidth and increasing Alexa rank.

I need advise from the inhouse Stumble Master on how to make some changes in my site/articles to capture some of this traffic

Current articles getting about 500 unconverting hits a day between the 2 of them are

    http://www.webgenome.com/google-the-self-correcting-prophecy/

    Stumbled in Category "Search"

Open to advise. (and no ebooks please)

That is, for the better part, how Stumble traffic works.

People click the "stumble button" and move to a new page. If they like it, they give it a thumbs up, if they don't like it they either give it a thumbs down or just click the stumble button again. They are not looking for the content that you offer, they are looking for the sites that StumbleUpon has to offer....welcome to their network.

So most people that get that 1% at best traffic to do something else, are the lucky ones... lol.

Yep that is common with Stumble Upon Traffic. of course, I look at it like this. Any traffic has the potential to be good traffic and I like people to read my stuff. If you objective is just to make money, the traffic is not very good. If you goal is to expose your site to as many as possible, it serves that purpose.

generally speaking, making money should come as a result of massive exposure. however as said by one of the previous posters, whether i am within stumble, digg or whatever, my site just becomes a piece in 'their' continuous content network.

The trick then I guess is to be able to break out of this and snatch the visitors away from their network into yours

I don't think SU traffic is that bad; when I get a lot of SU visitors (a few hundred) I always seem to have a few more eBay sales. It doesn't take much for a percentage of them to click through to eBay and drop the cookie.

That is correct. I have obtained a few visitors from Stumbles that have signed up and been return commenter's at my blog and I have had a few good PPC clicks. However, compared to organic traffic, the conversion is quite low. Compared to Digg, you at least get traffic, I never got much of anything from Digg.

Digg is more or less useless for folk like us.
Sphinn is looking good as the articles are relevant to IM, but you first have to be in the club to get anything out of their sandbox

The fact is that SU users DO read the articles and do like them, they just dont do anything else. I suppose it is a long term approach for building brand identity.

I sometimes use http://www.preblogging.com/increase-sociability/ to increase the StumbleUpon effect. It adds a reminder to people to give you a thumbs up (or what ever custom message) if the person was referred was from either SU or Digg. You could use that to offer other interesting links.
