Do you think he would actually DO IT, or do you think that he is just saying it, because a lot of the population smokes weed?
He has had the same stance for as long back as I have read him on the issues. He is for personal liberty, he does not 'pander' if anything he wont stand a chance of being elected because of his lack of pandering. If he could do it though is another story.
He could pardon a lot of non-violent drug users. Believe me, the nation is ready for marijuana to be legalized, but the first step is clearly getting Hemp legalized.
He'll be there to the bitter end I think bud, but there ill be 3 of them: McCain, Romney and Paul. McCain is absolutely nailed on for the G.O.P vote. I hope RP stands as an independant but some think he won't. RP hasn't really got a chance in hell of becoming President but when the USA is going to hell in a handbasket people might remember everything the great man has been saying.
I don't think Paul will run independent. But I do think he will be at the Republican convention, and a player. But it doesn't matter, because if a candidate represents YOUR ISSUES, then support them, whoever they are. We have to stop voting for who we think will win and start voting to further the things we believe in.
Agreed, would be much easier and more beneficial IMHO if we got rid of the 2 party system and had at least 3 major parties playing the field.
Need more than 3, really. Otherwise the third will consistently be a spoiler at best. If you think about it, we don't even need parties, except for the Imperial Presidency. Legislators don't need to be in a party to run.
Ron Paul. Tell all of your marijuana smoking friends to take a break from the bong and actually go vote for a change! Seriously, if this voting block was at all motivated they could make a real difference. There are millions and millions of American marijuana smokers but they either don't vote or aren't voting their interests.
Saying that is extremely moronic, tons of stoners vote. You try to make stoners sound so lazy, and it simply isn't true.
3 party still would not be perfect, I do believe it would be better than the current 2 party system. Just imagine if a viable 3rd party got some of those who currently do not vote motivated. Not only that they don't vote, some of them can not vote. Alot do smoke, only a small fraction use it as their top cause when voting.
Listen, I know a lot of people who smoke marijuana. To hell with it, I'll come out and say, I smoke marijuana. And yes I vote. BUT I stand by what I said, I see a lot of marijuana smokers who are either not voting or voting for people who want to put them in jail. Think about that. If you are a marijuana smoker then everyone in the race right now (in both parties) except for Ron Paul* should be unthinkable. Why? Because everyone else that is running for president thinks that you should be in JAIL. Let me repeat that, they think you should be in JAIL! I mean, why would anyone vote for someone who wants to treat them like a criminal just for what they put in their own body? Some people think that because it's so easy to get marijuana and most people smoke without ever getting into legal trouble that it's not that big of a deal that it's illegal. Let me tell you that I know from personal experience that it is a big deal. I know people (very close people) who are at risk of going to jail because of marijuana so this subject hits very close to home. And over 700,000 people are arrested in America every year because of marijuana related "offenses." I think it's likely that someone like Barack Obama thinks that marijuana should be legal in his personal views but since it is not politically acceptable to say so (yet) he will not bring it up. But, that's just not good enough. We need someone like Ron Paul who has publicly stated he believes in marijuana legalization and who said he would pardon all people in federal prison for non violent drug related "crimes." *Mike Gravel is also for the legalization of marijuana and is also still officially in the race but his support is so insignificant that I think at this point supporting Ron Paul makes more sense.
Very good point. "the illegal manufacture, distribution or possession of controlled substances may be a felony." Personally I disagree strongly with the law against felons being able to vote. I think that once someone does their time they should have all of their rights back. That's above the obvious fact that no one should be in jail in the first place for merely using (or growing or distributing) marijuana. And yes, I do not think marijauna "dealers" should be treated any differently than those that use. To me it's insane to say it's ok to smoke pot but not ok to sell it (and grow it.) Someone has to sell it or else none of us could smoke it! I personally respect people who do this greatly as they are at a large risk of imprisonment and doing a fine public service!
all i have to say is if your basing your vote for US prez on if they would legalize pot or not..... thats kinda sad.
