This is one of the most ridiculous things I have read so far.
You are talking about old english.
BE (British English) and AE (American English) are to date very similar. Both of them derive from Old English and Germanic.

There is a reason why it's called ENGlish.

Comes from a country known today as ENGland....

The one thing that I really don't understand is how people can be so gullible to believe whatever they hear.

During the Vietnam war, America lead their nation to believe that they were winning, and that it was a fight for the world's freedom. The public ate it up and sent boat loads of troops and money into Vietnam soil. American ended up losing a war that they were never winning.

Well was it really a war for freedom? Vietnam's beloved Ho Chin Minh wanted the South to be part of Vietnam again; America was fighting out of it's own agenda.

And here it happens again, America is at another war, fighting for freedom, again. A war that they fabricated out of thin air. Bush said that Sudam was not involved in 9/11, AND admitted that he wasn't making nukes. Again, fighting out of their own agenda and leading their nations to believe that, America is great, and America is fighting for freedom.

I've been eyeing this thread for hours with my finger itching to get involved in the discussion, albeit, it's bound to get me in trouble.

Not so long ago, I visited the USA for 3 months and toured all over the western States, 14 States I think in total, and well, from the experience over there, I was able to draw just a few conclusions.

Of those 14 states, I have to say that by far I found the people of Idaho really rather intensely thick, closely followed by Oregonians excluding Portland, however outside of the city, thick as sh... I mean errrr five short planks of wood.

California I found the people there very friendly, welcoming and extremely intelligent and it was an absolute pleasure to converse with them.

Now, don't get me wrong, the American people, for all their brashness and false thinking that they are the dominant nation on the planet, aren't that bad, certainly the people there are a tad weird, but so would I be if I came from your country no doubt.:D

And that's a bit rich I know coming from the most eccentric nation on the planet the good old British Isles, where we're all as mad as blinkin' hatters.

I think it's your politicians that are the problem, and most other nations perceive Americans only through your politicians and too, what they see on the television. I know from my extensive travels there, that the average joe, man in the street, the average family, like anywhere, for all their peculiarities are much the same as anyone else from elsewhere, despite being rather annoyingly shallow at times. Again, this is just my own observation, which of course, though holding water for me, to you I agree most likely reads like complete and utter poppycock and balderdash, frankly I couldn't give a sh... I mean a flying hoot, everyone is entitled to their opinions.

My ex partner in the States was a very high flying banking executive, an odd creature she was with a heart of gold. But most certainly odd, bless her cotton socks.

You know something which I do not think helps you lot, I mean you guys, is your extraordinarily awful television programming. With hundreds of channels to choose from, I have never seen so much cra... I mean errrrrr rubbish, that's the word I was looking for, in my entire life. Comparing your tv to just our basic five stations that you get as bog standard here in the UK, the American channels by comparison pale into absolute insignificance in the exceedingly low quality output of programs provided for the viewing audience. This lack of quality programming I think and consumer isolation from the rest of the world does the perception by others of your country no good whatsoever, and to be perfectly honest, it needs an almighty great boot up the backside.

Now, if we were to compare what the UK has done for the world, by it's tiny landmass in comparison to the US, I'm sure you would be forced to agree that from such a tiny country, we have surpassed you quite abundantly, please do remind me when the sun never set on the American empire? Pardon, I didn't quite catch that, please speak a little clearer!

The same goes for many other countries around the world, they have in fact many of them, contributed enormously towards the advancement of our entire global awareness on a million subjects and one, some in a much bigger way admittedly than others, but what is this discussion really about?

How is it possible to say that one country is dominant in world wide affairs over everywhere else?

    A mute point I conjecture.

My partner and I, we disagreed strongly about this too, with me, three years ago predicting that within 20 years and most likely less, the American economic market would be in tatters and the first place for global economic dominance would be a closely fought battle between China and India. Those are without a shadow of doubt the countries to really watch out for in the future. Within 20 years, possibly 15, either of those two, mark my words will overtake the USA as the 'dominant superpower'.

America being made up of Americans, oddly enough, will no doubt still argue to the cows come home that they are the greatest, whilst most of the rest of the world will laugh in their faces and behind their backs at such stupidity, the crass, crazy thinking of a still, deluded nation.

Times are a changing, you guys had better get used to it, America's glory days are over, just as they were for the UK when we lost much of the empire. Everything turns around in cycles, revolutions of time, being aware of these cycles and what they mean for the future is of prime importance, if you still want to take on board your totally admirable entrepreneurial spirit of free enterprise.

Whatever you do, adapt to change faster than us arrogant Brits, from our history here and collective wisdom from past mistakes made, you might learn a thing or two to avoid taking and making the same erroneous mistakes in your own futures, both on the macro and micro personal levels.

Why do you think an incredible number of Brits are leaving this country in droves right now? What is it that we know about the future that is leading many of us to once again follow our noses to greater wealth and happiness, personal fulfillment and satisfaction upon far flung foreign shores?

Is this history repeating itself? What are we up to, us wily Brits?

Are the Americans stupid? They bloody well are if they do not learn from their mistakes, most certainly yes. If they embrace positive change and the future, who knows, megiddo might yet be further off than everyone imagines, but given your errrrrrrr wotsit politicians and war mongerers, they'll lead you first upon many rocky shores with foundations in sand only and when trouble really does hit the fan, because of their stupidity, their house will cave in like a pack of cards.

    Where will you be then?

    Now, who's stupid?

Magawr plugs his ears in advance. Oh blimey, here we go. :D

I live in the USA and I have to say that there are alot of clueless people living here. All people know anymore is movies fashion and restaurants. Selfishness is rampant everywhere and true Love was lost somewhere back in the 50's.

Thanks, although it's just one opinion, and in the great scheme of things, what does it really matter?

    Nevertheless, appreciate you saying that.

I'm absolutely gasping for a cup of tea.

Sorry but I just had to make that sentence bold, red, underlined and bigger so that everyone can see it clearly.

I can't believe you followed that sentence with a lecture about a war that happened before you was even in your daddys ball sack.

no i wasn't referring to you, ive no quarrel with any single person here, i made it clear before i dont hate US people, what i did was highlight few of the reasons yee are "hated" and considered "dumb"

well don't start quagmires then over oil,

there was no weapons of mass destructions in Iraq and there were no terrorists (well untill the US got there and started torturing people, see @ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Ghraib_prisoner_abuse , so you see you do "support" terrorist, you are breeding a whole f**king generation of them, they will come back and bite yee in the arse sooner or later)

by going into Iraq the US is helping train a whole generation of extremists

protect their country by invading countries that had nothing to do with 9/11? without a single shred of evidence?

if yee dont want a war, do something about it! , i dunno write to you senator make sure another lunatic doesnt get elected, I hear McCain is all itching to start a war with Iran

theres is a bit more than 1%, the whole country was build by emigrants at one stage, at the cost to the native population of course

Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

^^ the above quote stands very true to day, and yee are repeating it

anyways history (ironically George Bush has a degree in history from Yale, says alot about your education system when dumbasses can buy a degree..) will judge the US, but its unlikely Bush and his fella war criminals will ever stand justice for their murder

    woah there.

I was pretty interested in this URL so i decided to visit it.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Ghraib_prisoner_abuse

but after seeing everything on this webpage.

All I could say was, Inhuman.

    P.S.

The picture with the human pyramid was too much. Man! How could they stand to do such a thing?

I feel sorry for guys like TouchAshley and the other Americans in this particular thread who are trying to stop this misunderstanding between other people's beliefs.

Now they're gonna need to do more after seeing that sh*t.

Excellent replies, spot on, absolutely hits the nail, bang on the head every time.

Still got a copy of that WMD manifesto here in my files, received my copy within 2 hours of it being published by the government.

Have to see if I can dig it out sometime.

Oh ok I won't start any quagmires over oil. I'll tell all my closest friends and family also. :)

c'mon. It's the Bush administration. And.....Did you tell me to write the senator ?

I find it quite amazing how all of you talk like you actually know exactly what's going on. noooooobody knows what goes on in briefings and behind closed doors. None of you know anything about the situation except what the media has told you. And your own little theories.

I see that you're still acting like I'm the president...

As I said earlier, I'm just a regular guy trying to live my life. I'm not the president, I didn't invade Iraq and excuse me for not knowing everything about all the countries in the world. I learn what I can. I love to learn it, but knowing about what kind of food and what pets someone has in another country across the world isn't gonna help me live and succeed in MY life.

Well then that goes for you to, so you defending them has no valid point other, right? Of course I'm right.

TouchAshley you're pretty much the only American silly enough to still post defensive comments in this thread, the other ones were smart enough to aknowledge that these "f__king foreigners" might have a point. I really REALLY want to see what you have to say for yourself after seeing that link.

I know it's a War, but my God...show some dignity.

TouchAshley's reply after seeing the Abu Gharib link (as I imagine):

"Jeez, it wasn't me that racked up all those poor Iraqis naked!"

And, there's a lot of truth to that. I wouldn't blame the average American for what the government is doing; I know many people from the US that vehemently oppose the war. But, the fact remains that many Americans still support the invasion without even questioning the unreasonable Islamophobia they've all been fed.

    Shaking my head.

look @touchAshley I said it before i have nothing against you

if its anyone fault its the the people who elected that monster back in 2000 and again in 2004, after all you are meant to be a "democracy" right?

thats exactly what the Germans were saying 65 years ago when their government was torturing people, committing genocide and starting wars, im sure them words weren't much help when the bombs started raining on their cities

once again history offers some striking parallels

    exactly there are good people,
but they seem to be in the minority,

so to get back on topic at hand if the majority still supports these wrongdoings then being called "dumb" is going very soft on them

Tech, she/he/it actually stated that she/he/it supports the war or "doesn't know what happens behind the drapes", so she/he/it is indifferent to the war. When you see a murder 5 meters from you and turn your head and say "I didn't see anything" aren't you pretty much an accomplice?
