we have a site that we SEO and we noticed that it is ranked #1 for the name of the site but google only shows the domain as a link... what gives?
That wouldn't matter, Google would pull it's own description from content snippets. To answer the question, you most likely have NOSNIPPET added to your robots meta tag. I would need to review the URL if this is not the case.
It does matter, I have had this with a new site of mine before and assumed it was just taking time but I had placed a typo in the meta description tag and a few days after I fixed it my site description appeared. Wasn't using NOSNIPPET either. I know you are being helpful dude but don't deny other peoples experience.
meta description does matter please see link http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?answer=35264&query=snippets&topic=&type=#writegooddescriptions for the TS please read the google webmaster guidelines before applying any SEO iniatives on your sites
It could be one or many reasons. - bad code on the homepage - robots blocking content - 404 error codes on the server not set correctly. - improper use of redirects If you share the URL, i'm sure we can shed more light.
I am looking at all of that.... we have about 12 subdomains for each country and a all pages are 301-ed correctly... meta is there. also where are over 25 domain names that have been 301-ed into the main www version of the site... Has anyone seen a result that is only a link of the dmain name? it is very odd.. I will look further into it and will update if I figure it out. If anyone has had the exact same issue please advise on how you fixed it...
