maybe you should get out and travel more

here in Europe practically everyone knows English as first or second or even third language

same goes for just about everywhere ive traveled to recently such as Russia, Far East, Middle East, Latin America

English is not a terribly hard language to pick up im told over and over

Well what can you expect from a "foreigner" :D :p

    ---
When I was in Europe I was amazed at the amount of people that could speak English, or were prepared to tolerate my pathetic attempts at speaking their language. One of my favourite memories from traveling in Europe (and Asia) is seeing peoples faces change into a big funny grin when they realized I was from Australia, not America :p

Most of us foreigners learnt English through TV shows, computer games and music when we were little. In some countries (Germany, France, Spain) there's a habit of translating ALL TV shows in their language, which not only ruins the quality of the shows (lol, have you ever seen the German version of Bugs Bunny?) but also makes people less knowledgeable in the arts of the English language. Same goes for computer games. What's next, will they start translating Britney Spears too?

Anyway, you shouldn't simply expect someone to speak your language, be it English, Spanish or French when travelling to another country. If anything, it's your duty to learn theirs, not vice-versa.

Truer words have not been spoken... especially about translations ruining the quality of the original material. I've seen many Indian translations of Hollywood movies... one word: Abysmal.

I'm sure that this is stupid to distinguish by this aspect. How can you judge a man by his nation... maybe behavior or some habits but not the intellectual potential... Although, education plays important role and in different countries there are different educational structures/systems

Lol - the word xenophobia springs to mind!!

I really see this as banter. I don't think people mean what they say.

Loads of my friends are from all over. It wouldn't be good for us all to think the same and behave the same. I remember reading "hybridity breeds heresy"

Be proud of who you are and where you're from, and don't take everything to heart, that's my motto.

There is no such thing as American blood this country is not a race of people it is a mixture of all people that are American citizens.
However we are the best country for some things and not so good for others.

But as far as inventions go we have made things that the whole World would be back in the dark ages without like:

Electricity ( not actually made but harnessed)

    Airplanes

    internet

    DP yep DP!

    First successful open heart surgery

    refrigerator

    cameras (t.v. and still shots)

    just to name a few

How dare any of you people talk about This great country while using an American forum and using American language.

It's the giving from the citizens here that give alot of your countries food water and medicine to help.

I don't see many other countries citizens not government helping as much as us the people who use money from our paychecks to help others.

    Don't hate participate!

May GOD Bless America and HIS whole World also! :)

That's not really true. The US definitely gives the most money in foreign aid but that's due to the huge population. If you look at the 22 wealthiest nations, the US is near the bottom for giving based on Gross National Income. I'm not trying to belittle this in any sense at all and think US contributions are great but could be better (just as all countries could help a little more with foreign aid).

The World Bank provides about 10 percent of all foreign aid. The United States is its biggest contributor.

    As in 'merican?

I thought that the apostrophe might confuse you, I should have kept it simple. This is almost starting to get a bit sad.

Please somebody, tell me I'm being taken for a ride here...

Ok. It's obvious that every person is going to say that their country is the best. The main problem is that many people you hear saying that americans are not smart, are actually americans themselves.
