Hi, I'm new to SEO and trying to make sense of it all. I've heard a lot of good things about Wordpress, but recently was told that static html is a better solution for authority sites looking to build solid rank over the long haul. Just wondering what folks here think. I'm getting ready to begin development on my first site, which will be an authority site, and want to be sure I choose the best option. Thanks in advance for your help. Kind regards, drofwarc
If you want to update your website without any hassles like coding etc, I say use wordpress. Its the best content management system for me.
It doesn't matter if you use static or dynamic content, you can re-write URLs to look static when they are really dynamic. Also, wordpress has it's SEO down sides, its infamous for making duplicate content, it can sometimes display your blog posts at 5-6 different URLs. With proper use of robots.txt and robots meta tags and a unique custom theme you can excel with Wordpress.
It's not the best. It's not the worst either. I have some wordpress sites that rank well, others are hopeless. I also have 2 static HTML sites which are authority sites, number 1 rankings and naturally linked to by everyone. Its about content, not the platform.
yes i agree its about authority and duplicate content from copyrighters samples they give you when bidding for a job
For all of my sites I do the site myself, but have a /blog section within the site. This way I am getting the best of both worlds without any extra cost. It is great for doing newsletters and stuff to add good content with a easy rss feed to promote as well.
You can go either way and easily maintain a high authority SEO site. It's just up to personal preference.
If this is a long-term project, in my opinion you will ultimately benefit by learning to program your pages by hand in basic html. This will only take a couple of days to learn, but will give you more control over the details of your site's design, and also lead to a cleaner and more efficient design with faster pageloads. It could also give you capabilities that you wouldn't have with Wordpress. The drawback is that it would probably take you longer to create the site. So I would say that it comes down to the short term advantage of using wordpress vs the long term advantage of doing your own programming.
Agree, but simple HTML is not always enough, speaking of something for long-term work, then also you'll need CSS and Java
