I hear lots of people mentioning that original content is the best. I definitely think it is but what are the consequences of using content from article directories or other sources? Is it really that bad to use articles from directories? Thanks
Well there's two scenarios to concider Do you want your website to have a chance at ranking well in the search engines... Don't use articles from article directories If you are simply looking for content to use in Landingpages/minisites for PPC purposes... Go ahead and use them, I do it all the time and it works great for me
Well I haven't really decided yet what I want to do with this site. I am leaning towards just trying to make some money on PPC. I guess if the article directory content works for PPC type stuff then it's ok. My next site will probably be a better "quality" site with more custom content. Thanks for the advice. Any others have any opinions on this? Cheers!
High quality original content is getting cheaper with each passing day. I suggest you shop around for original content providers. One key advantage is that the articles you get will be completely customized to the niches you wish to cover.
U can see my site Yiwu,I do it almost fully original content,I get it at some small newspapers that they hadn't published at the internet, and rebuild it..or sometimes i wirte it myself... So my new site now had a good ranking with a short links..
You hear from a lot of people who don't know what they are talking about. Original, or not, if the articles are good, use them. Hello??? "Consequences"??? As a Webmaster, your goal is to keep your visitors coming back, time after time, and good content, whether it is old or not, is what does it. And take off that damn shower cap! ~
I beg to disagree. Take a look inside the content creation section of this website and do a search for all the threads posted by clients who paid for cheap content and found the end result was of inferior quality. It's not getting any better.
Point taken. However, it boils down to where you look and who to trust. While it is often true that "you get what you pay for," quality and cost are not necessarily mutually exclusive. It totally depends on who the provider is. Here's a guide on what to look for in a content provider
I have a site that consists of about 60% free reprint articles and about 40% original content. Some of the original content articles AND some of the free reprint articles rank pretty well in google. I also have some original articles and some free reprint articles that do not rank at all for their keywords. So, my point is that free reprint articles can and do work sometimes, they can work as good (or as bad) as original content.
If you want to build up a successful site in the long run, don't use that content. Write original, good quality stuff yourself, or hire others to do it for you. You'll do better in the search engines and with your readers as well.
Thanks for all the help folks. I am hearing both sides of the story so I guess I'll just have to decide whats best for me and my site. Cheers!
Use your common sense, shower cap. If the articles are good, it...does...not..matter. It's a pretty good clue when the visitors keep coming back, don't ya think? But hell, use 'em both. Anyway, good luck with your site.
If your site is comprised of all duplicate content, that's bad. However, including top-notch on-target articles within your content mix isn't going to kill your site and your visitors will appreciate it. While I've found that most articles in many article directories are just fluffy, meatless "typing," if you find something your visitors would love, use it. If I had a site about politics and the NY Times released a great article about the candidates, I'd use it in a New York minute. Balance. That's the key.
Tell that to Google? Sorry, but my success does not fall or rise to the oh mighty Google. Guys, there is more to the Net than fucking Google. Jesus. And, uhhhh, I would rather have my site read by thousands upon thousands of, TARGETED visitors every day, rather than a few hundred. ... If that. And I am talking about being on page one. But, hey, that's just me. And while you are, TRYING to get to the top, so are thousands of others, many of whom are good at SEO, including myself, and you all can't fit on page one. Or, for that matter, page two, even. But like I always say...different strokes for different folks. Knock yourself out.
the problem with non-unique content is that you can get shit rankings if google recognizes it as duplicate content from another website.
If you are going to use article directory content, just make sure that it has not been downloaded and published many other times. This way you have a better chance of not getting penalized and put in Googles supplemental index. All you have to do is put the article title in quotes and see how many sites are linking to it. If you look hard enough you might find a couple of good ones that have not really been published.
