I don't understand why some people only want basic interfaces...but hey each to their own. As for me, I happen to enjoy eye candy along with performance.

It's not that we don't like it. It's that it takes up a lot of computer resources to have it.

It does...but that's the way of the future. Pretty soon 4 gigs is going to be standard on computers. Also if people are lacking in the resource department they should look into an app that comes with vista called "ReadyBoost". This nifty little program allows you to extend your system memory onto your typical usb2.0 thumbdrive. You will notice a huge difference if say you only have 1 gig of ram and you plug in a 1gb or 2gb thumb drive. Vista has a lot of potential people are just afraid to use it.

I have no real issues with eye candy as long as it doesn't detract from actually GETTING THINGS DONE.

I'm an impatient sort - when I click on search I want to search NOW, not after some goof assed dog tells me about the search feature. When I click on the menu I want it to appear NOW so I can choose the next sub menu, not after some five second goof assed animation 'slides in'. When I drag a window, I'd rather have the translucent rectangle so I can see where the **** it's actually going to go, not some goofy dragging animation that makes the entire thing deform and stretch. Hey Linux and OSX, how about just ONCE you have the cursor actually change to reflect that SOMETHING is going on, instead of choking on your own goofy launch animation so you can't tell the application started, then ten minutes later up and decide 'ok, he started this' and pop up ten copies of the desired program?

If nothing else, when I boot up my Q6600 with a Ge8800GTS I expect it to run faster than my A64 3000+, and not have the UI be dragged down to slower than my old P3 laptop that's still running win98.

On top of which, you have shit like transparancies which are all the rage - and for me serve only ONE purpose - to make text IMPOSSIBLE TO READ. It's like they are taking all those usability studies from the early 90's about contrast and visibility and throwing it out the window because some art-*** was allowed to run wild.

Hell, the only eye-candy I applaud in any of these new OS has to be font smoothing (cleartype and it's kin) - at least that is USEFUL. Now if Windows only let you set the striping for monitors that are rotated 90 degrees, and if only freetype didn't still kern text like a sweetly retarded epileptic crack addict.

OS designers need to learn the ****ing lesson that the UI is ***ING FINE. If my grandmother can figure out windows 2k, you are ****ING DONE WITH THE UI, LEAVE IT THE BLOODY BLUE HELL ALONE - MAYBE just MAYBE if they stopped screwing around with this eye candy bullshit they could have the time to fix all the underlying security and hardware driver issues - and MAYBE, just MAYBE actually fix all the things wrong with thier EXISTING operating systems (perish the thought).

I've never tried it, but I'm sure it'll get better after the next Service Pack release.

He is very passionate about getting his work done and has no patients for cute GUIs. You can relate to that.

I certainly understand wanting to get the job done as I feel the same way. However, all the features he speaks of simply do not get in the way. Everything is adjustable on Vista such as the much hated transparency he speaks of. You can tone it down, up, or turn it completely off. What's wrong with options? :/

Every OS will continue to upgrade their GUI no matter what. I think its better to accept change rather than be angry about it...unless you can make your own OS?

It is Microsoft's fault the system is bloated. They are trying to further increase their ability to keep tabs on everyone. It is bad for business applications, especially if not all computers are running Vista. Compatibility is a huge issue.
I've got 959Mb RAM and still, programs freeze all the time. Opening a large excel file takes about 5 min.

Lol. i agree. I doubt that Vista alone would cause your PC to slow down that much!

It is Vista that is slowing him down. Check Vista's minimum requirements and you will see. He needs to add more memory to his computer.

dude theres no way excel is lagging that bad because of vista....seriously. it may have a part in it, but that has to do with his potentially spyware infected computer or something else as well.

I agree completely and would add that I consider it a major insult to my intelligence when M$ (or anyone else) spends big money on hype and little money on product quality. They may be able to fool the noobs, but anyone who knows their way around a machine recognizes that what's being sold is all glitz and no substance.

And by the way, where's the new Win FS we were promised?

^ Agree strongly. I've been using the PC since it's first stages (small blue screens that didn't help out as much) and I know when I'm getting tricked into buying a linux-similar interface
