    Hi

Im average guy that somthimes want to make a usefull site,
so i got the idea for the name, and check it, its parked on ads.
Ok, another idea, parked, so maybe another idea? parked.

when someone use this domain for some site with content, then good, he was first
but when i see nothing besides ads, thats pisses me totaly
they earn what? 10 dollars per domain for a year from that clicks?
and 6 dollars is their cost so they got like $4 profit?

I think and want it to be regulate by some, goverment unit.

Its like polluting the air by the cars and factories.
    Goverment limits it.

    Damn.

sometimes most of us make $10, $15 or $300 a day from a parked domain, so don't get upset..., that's the name of the game

That's been beaten to death a gazillion times. Needless to say, that wish isn't
likely to turn into reality anytime soon, especially when various interests and
    issues are involved.

Besides, you won't be exempt from it.

Try contacting the owner of the parked domain you like. You would be surprised how many of us are willing to sell a domain in our portfolio for a fair price. Just keep in mind that most parked domains are receiving some traffic. So the value is in more then just the name, but the traffic that names brings.

You have got to remember that not all parked domains mean that the owner is just sitting on them, some people have plans and are just parking them until they get around to using them.

I can assure you that there is always a good alternative to the name that you want, i always smile when i read that all the good names are gone and things like that.:)

Yesterday i had some names written down, crossed a few off for reasons that made sense to me after research, checked a couple more, they were gone, within about 1 hour 45mins i had a nice sounding 2 word domain in my posession.

It dont need regulating, they bought the domains first, its nothing worse than someone got it before the next person.

LOL....another complainer. So, basically what you're saying is similar to: "there's a vacant block of land owned by a private investor, nobody's using it, I have a concept to build a house on it, therefore the government should regulate it so I can get that land for cheap.

If you want the domain, who's stopping you from contacting the owner & making them a good offer for the domain?

Sex.com is parked. I think the government should give that domain to me as I want to develop that name into a site. :D

Parked domains just clutter up the web. There should be a rule that if you purchase a domain name and it isn't associated with an actual website, or forwarded to a website within 6 months, you forfeit rights to the name.

I know what you mean. :)

Another vote here for attempting to contact the owner and seeing if they will sell it to you.

Wow, that is a bold statement.

Maybe we should not stop there and forfeit rights to a domain if the site does not meet minimum quality standards. Or better yet, one would forfeit a domain after ten years so that someone else could have a chance to use it. :D

    I'm full of ideas today!

Seriously, if someone registers a domain name it is theirs regardless of what is on the domain. Just because someone may have a better idea for the domain, does not mean they should get it. Revenue is earned by many methods, and domain parking is just another method.

If one is too lazy or stubborn to contact the owner of the parked domain, that's on them. If the domain owner comes back with a ridiculous offer, then I can see getting upset...

If you want something to get upset about, then think of the killing registrars are making selling these domains in auctions. Or better yet, holding domains that are searched for and found to be available.

As much as I hate parked domains, the only major problem I have is that for a really stupid unwanted domain, the owner tries to extort me on the price

Ever notice how quickly a parked name resolves? And how long it takes for the servers to realize that there is no domain: kdet98543wrt.com?

    Parking speeds up the internet!

In that case, call the domain owners bluff. Have him forward you a screenshot of the earnings of that domain to justify such a high asking price. If nothing else, you will force him to use photoshop to doctor up the image!

I currently use one of my domain names only for email. Tell me why I should
    forfeit that.

If you can't argue against that, imagine how many other interests will press
    against yours.

or not care, i don't send traffic stats to email offers. most of your big name domains (generic ones) aren't going to just go based on revenue. You want THEIR domain name, so clearly there is some value associated with it, most people dont buy random strings for no reason, there *generally* is some logic, sounds nice, planning something for later, met certain metrics, etc.

As far as this little cry thread, well, get over yourself. The world doesn't revolve around you, you have no right to judge what people do with what THEY pay for. And whining doesn't really get much sympathy, there is still some decent stuff out there, domains aren't the end-all of a website. Good content/services and the users will come. Just because you can't have some uber-generic keyword domain worth lots of money for your little project doesn't mean everything should change.

I think many of those names were already taken in the year 1996 so your idea came years later. Generic names have to be bought from existing sellers you cannot blame parking for that. Sellers park domains to make some money till they find a buyer.

I agree there is more value in a domain then just the traffic, especially if it is a single word domain. But most people here, myself included, don't have the bankroll to purchase these names.

I have no problem sending stats of my domains to those that are genuinely interested. The keyword is interested. If they pick up the phone and call me, then I can devote some attention to them.

My latest domain inquiry was from someone that wanted to buy one of my 100+ daily UV domains. Seems they already created the company and thought my domain was a good fit, and it was. The highest offer from him was $800. The guy said that he can go register a domain for $20 (I should have given him a Godaddy coupon code :)). Anyway, I sent him screenshots of the traffic stats and asked him to review it with his Web Designer and marketing staff. For me to give up a name that gets 130 uniques daily (consistently for years) for $800 is a joke. The CTR is well above 60%. But from my point of view, at least I shared with him that I do make money from the domain and it would expose his business to well over 3000 unique visitors month after month after month. I showed him the value, but he was fixated on the fact he can register a domain for $20. And yes he can register a domain for $20. Just not mine. :)
