Hosting Query --> Urgent

Today i received a mail from my host (Anhosting.com) that all my sites are shut down due to excess CPU level usage and they are asking me to upgrade to a VPS.

    My host package was:
    300 GB space
    3000 GB bandwidth

I have around 30 sites including 2 forums, few blogs, directories, etc. hosted here and i haven't yet exceeded the bandwidth, what do i do now?
I wasn't aware of any kind of thing such as CPU limit until now.
I am not in a position to upgrade to a VPS nor do i know any basic details of its functioning.
Suggest me a good host or a VPS where i should not undergo this problem.
Anhosting provides a VPS for $45/month which is very expensive for me.
    Please help me through :(

A typical ending to a successful website owner who is a shared hosting customer.. lol!

you will get to this point with every other shared host... its time for you to move onto a VPS there are a lot of good VPS offers these days especially with Lxadmin control panel the cost can be well below $10 per month for a basic VPS

though it will take some time to get used to Lxadmin, it is worth it.

See here there are a lot of good VPS offers:

p.s. moving websites is pita ;)

I really do not know how a VPS works, so could you provide me a source to learn about its basic functioning, handling, etc.

My host provides just 10% of CPU usage compared to 25% Hostgator.

Which shared host in your opinion is good, i am thinking of moving my sites to a new host?
Of course, i would want my new host to transfer all my sites or at least restore a cpanel backup.

Most likely your forums are causing the overload of CPU usage. If you know coding, then do this (learnt this the hard way):
1> See which sql queries are selecting too much data. Free the data as soon as it's used.
2> Add indexes to your database.
    3> optimize the database regularly.
4> remove any useless mods that you might have installed.
If you are using wordpress for blogs, then I think the new version performs better on memory usage etc.
CPU usage has nothing to do with your alotted webspace, or bandwidth.
Even with a VPS, you get like 20-40% CPU usage depending on the host you choose. If the forum keeps growing quick, you might soon need a dedicated solution.
    Hope that helps...
    regards :)

IMO if you go for any shared hosting you will finally end up like this only...

forums with lot of members and posts are resource hogs (particularly if ppl search a lot)!! in addition to that you have lots of blogs + sites

and this 10% and 25% are burstable limits meaning you can use them just for some time...
imagine how can a server with hundreds of shared customers can give 25% of CPU ??

a VPS or a Dedi is a good option

EDIT: as JEET said you can try some tweaks but you cant avoid load due to traffic ;)

    Thanks for the help Jeet!
I really do not know coding, and yes i have forum and many wordpress blogs.
Do you think i should shift to a better shared host as the present one provides just 10% CPU usage compared to Hostgator with 25%?
If so, suggest me some good shared host?
I have heard about Hostmonster and Hostgator, but do not know how they work.

If you go with say completevps.com or geekrack.net I know they are extremely helpful and active with their clients (the latter offers level 1 management free with all vps packages) so the management/ step up to a vps wouldnt be too bad.

IMO that is definitely the way you should go, you have just outgrown the shared hosting sector. :) if you need any help with vps etc ... you can contact me via msn :

Many of the hosts couldn't handle the account if any of their shared account is using a bit more than the allocated resources, especially in a highly overselling environment. You can go for our reseller hosting package if interested. Please see http://sambahosting.com/resellerplans.htm for price information
