Hey experts out there I have a few questions? I have a site that is #1 for a few keywords. I created a new blog off the main domain in a new folder with that folder being a new keyword im gearing for. My question is this. Should I be building links "anchor text" for the new keyword and point it to the main domain that already ranks #1 for keywords in the same niche or should i start a link building campaign pointing to the /folder off the main domain. The main page won't really benefit the people searching for this new keyword, but the blog will definately benefit people who come in on the new keyword. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Oh also let say i have 20 of my own sites that I want to use in the link building. Does it matter they are all on the same ip address? If so should I spread them out among diff hosts and ip addresses?
So I would point it to my new blog thats locate in the /folder thats off the main domain right? I figured this was the case, I just didn't know what the best way was since the main domain has some really great rankings.
Cool so i guess IM now on a journey to link to www. mysite.com/folder Do you think the fact that my main site has decent PR and ranks #1 for a lot of keywords in the same niche that it will help the rankings of this new folder?
My take on this: 2 things. I would tend to target a folder rather than a page. If for example you change your architecture latter and index.php became index.htm or something you wont have to worry about weather the redirect transfers full juice. As for your main page helping the rankings, it will give it a boost if you have a good internal linking structure. If for example you have a straight html sitewide menu and the new blog is in the menu, I would imagine your site will pass alot of good juice to the new blog. Make sure the anchor text of your internal linking, in the menu for example is the keyword you want to target for the new blog.
