Is it possible to buy a domain name and not be listed in WHOIS (and other similar systemes if any)?

During buying a domain name, you can add privacy that will hide your personal information from whois search, you're going to pay extra $ for making your domain name private.

I bought quite a few domains over the past two years, but I never saw that option.

Based on the info above (thanks btw) I'll contact my host.

Which I did in the meanwhile and they answered that, as a general policy, they ALWAYS publish the owners information.

So if anybody knows a host/domain name provider who doesn't...

Many domain registrars allow private registration as an additional option to a domain, Godaddy is one of them.
But keep in mind that most probably your information is already cached by services like domaintools registrant search...
