You could and try the Buy, Sell & Trade sub-forum on digital point, atleast you could review the iTrader feedback and pm past customers if they still hang around DP. I would assume it could be hard to find the right SEO company, each one has their own methods and progression that can differ and give different results.

Orz - Not sure why you were so quick to judge someone...but for example, if Danny Sullivan himself were to start a site right now, it would probably have an Alexa ranking of millions, as well as a PR N/A. Just because the site is new on the scene, doesn't mean they don't know what they're doing!!! PageRank is only updated quarterly at best, and Alexa rankings are a very shitty indicator of popularity, as the majority of customers (small businesses) visiting their site doubtfully have an Alexa toolbar installed in their browsers.
Depends on your budget and nature of sites. On one hand there are high profile firms like SEOMOZ, PronetAdvertising who caters to multinational and big companies, there are lots of good firms there for smaller companies and individuals. I could have helped you if you gave some hints of your budget.

99.9% people/organizations who are looking for SEO work won't be able to hire them due to there rates. Also, lets be honest here, SEO is NO magic and people like me who are involved in SEO are not magician. If you think "these" people can magically get you on top, than get serious, They also outsource there work to company like ours. SEO is not rocket science, it just need time and hard work and if you don't have, than outsource it. I have started working with submitexpress. I choose them simply because i need to get top for 20.000.000 competitions keywords. I really believe that if they did it for themselves, they can do it for anyone else. Theri rates are not that bad aswell. About $2500/month for 20 keywords in top10.
