Has anyone noticed their Alexa ranking dropping? I know it is not a big deal, but on one of my sites it has been between 50-80k for around 2 years and recently it just dropped to around 250k, but traffic has remained the same. Just curious if something in their measuring changed or if it is just me.
I have many parked domains. My most visited domains have no Alexa data whatsoever, while my lowest traffic domains do. Go figure. Alexa data means little to me as it is extremely inaccurate and unreliable.
Hi ... similar Alexa drop for my site, from a steady 160,000 to 268,000+, with all signs pointing to a continued drop. Until the drop, I used no "tricks." Traffic was stable, even increasing bit by bit, virally. Since the drop, in November, I've tried everything you could imagine, and nothing worked. At best, and I've no evidence for this assertion, using various "tricks" slowed the fall. Whatever, I prefer not to use "tricks," and stopped. As for the worth of Alexa, the service is only useless to those who know how the web works. Among visitors, generally, and advertisers, surprisingly, Alexa counts. How does Joe Public or Jane Advertiser compare web sites, competing for their attention or dollar? PR and Alexa is the answer, and no amount of web logic makes any difference. As in all aspects of life, if something is believed to be true, its consequences will be factual. Good luck.
wouldn't it be safe to say that with the recent removal of alexa redirect (which by the way really did nothing for rankings), that they are trying to redo part of their system now? Just be patient. They are probably trying to work out the kinks to their system now. As for the rest, just give it some time. I noticed a slight drop but perhaps they are just trying to rework some of their algorithms to make it more balanced and not as inflated. The redirect was not supposed to do anything to inflate your ranking anyway. Alexa stated this previously to my knowledge, so I do not know what the fluff is about that. I am not too worried I guess. Thats all.
Mine has dropped as well. I blame it on the FireFox plug in, as mine was going down till it's release, now it just seems to go up... I base this on nothing but the observation of my own site.
I never have either, but as someone else pointed out some advertisers still put some value in those numbers. Thanks for your input.
I would have to say the logical reasoning behind it is this...and this is only if you believe the Alexa Ranking system works sufficiently. I would have to say that people are just getting more traffic than you...just because your traffic has remained the same, doesnt mean that others have...I have gone from 1,900,000 to 369,000 in the past month in a half and all of my sites are now under the 1,000,000 mark. I get more visitors than most of my friends who have sites that are in the 30,000...so I dont trust anything Alexa says...its a cool thought though and I will be checking out compete.com
Yeah, I like Compete and it is amazingly accurate - I was very surprised. I do not think it has caught on as much with the advertisers, but I hope it does because it is much more accurate. That is a very interesting point that I had not thought about before (traffic from other sites increased moving my ranking).
Yeah, mine started that way and just seems to keep going down even though my traffic is staying the same or increasing.
