If you are going to see Cloverfield, don't read this thread.

    Cloverfield sucks and heres why.

Your city is under attack. You get a voicemail from your friend. "I'm bleeding bad and I can't move". You and your 4 25-30 year old friends decide to ignore military warning and run towards the thing attacking the city in hope you can find your friend and help her escape. Riiiiiiiiiiiight. I'm pretty sure when I'm looking at a huge monster and there are tanks blasting it four feet from me 1) I would be deaf, 2) I would run away. And when I'm told the whole city is going to be destroyed in an hour, my priorities might change to getting out, not continue on this insane mission to save my dead friend.

but no, they cross town despite tanks, soldiers and a huge monster blocking their progress. Then they get to the building, and it's fallen over, leaning against another building. "Oh fuck, the building is fucked, there is no way we can go inside and probably anyone inside is dead." is what goes on in my mind. What the characters think is...I'm totally trained in rescue efforts, I'll climb up 57 floors of stairs, NOT BE TIRED, jump across to the other roof, then go down that building *somehow*, find the right floor, and rescue your friend, climb up the building, rejump the roof, then climb down 57 floors of stairs.

oh and I forgot to mention the friend who was injured, she had a piece of rebar through her left chest. so they lift her off of it. no punctured lung, no bleeding, and she's able to move her arm around just fine. oh cool. I didn't know she pierced by magical metal that doesn't cause damage.

Let's not forget the "parasites" that drop off the monster. Why do they make the same sound as humans talking fast? and what happens when they bite you? I don't know because the movie didn't want to bother explaining. A character is bit, then taken behind a blue tarp where...something...happens. Did a monster explode out of her? did she turn into a monster? did someone attack her? who knows?

then the characters are told "the city will be leveled". What does that mean? They will drop bombs all over the city? Why? How is that going to stop the monster? Why not try dropping those bombs on the monster. Does it mean a nuke? Why not say "nuke the city" to make it more suspensful for the audience and make it clear the consequences. The whole movie is from a video tape that was recovered. If a nuke dropped I doubt this video would be around.

And the whole thing is shot in as nausiating way as possible. I have no problems with video games, 3d movies, motion rides, but this movie had me squeezing my eyes in pain from jumping around so much.

I give the movie two stars.

Well, I'll probably never see the movie anyway. But it brings up an interesting point.

Are you meaning to say that you would not risk your own life to save the life of a friend? Would you not at least attempt to save your friend or would you just leave them there to die and save your own life instead?

    ;)

Cloverfield was great! Everyone go see it. Yeah yeah, the characters might make some dumb decisions here and there, but the decisions they make are actually believable. I'd probably do the same thing, well, except some things at the end of the movie.

It's cool and you can't deny that wierd 9/11 feeling at the beginning of the movie. I don't know about everyone else, but I actually gave a damn for the characters once things start going *boom*.

Ok, my thoughts are.. if it's shot as a home video, its a perspective that YOU are watching and feeling like your there. So, lets say your on the top of the apartment building with everyone else pondering what just happened and then your running from debris on fire. Would you know whats going on? should the movie sit and explain every detail, OR ...be fair to the perspective and make you feel like your there with the characters not knowing a damn thing. and would you just go away from someone you loved knowing they are dying? real life doesn't have drawn out conclusions and explinations...

btw, i loved the movie. maybe a sequel will have more answers:)

I'm no professional rescue dude. and if this "rescue" means I have to go towards a monster and fight with the army, then you know what, I might just not do it. oh and the person I'm rescuing told me they are dying? yeah. I'd have to say goodbye at that point.

I can't even be bothered to find the remote control sometimes. I have to just watch one channel all day. You think I'm going to fight the army and a monster?

Groundhog Day doesn't have any faults.

Those dumb decisions are the whole plot of the movie. If it wasn't I wouldn't have had a problem with it.

I wouldn't know what is going on, until I saw the news and their footage of a big monster. Then I would say, game over. And since it is from my perspective I'm much more inclined to put my own beliefs into the movie. I certainly wouldn't climb 57 stories to jump to the rooftop of a fallen building. But these guys think it is a great idea.
