Should Google Acquire Yahoo?

If you were in the top management of Google, Inc., would you consider buying Yahoo? It seems Yahoo is experiencing difficulty. Yahoo has reduced the number of its workers lately.

If Google buys Yahoo, it's almost a monopoly with no real competition besides msn.

Yeah, but MSN is barely competition. I rank the same for a few keywords in both Google and MSN. MSN only sends me maybe 10 ~ 20 hits a day. Google is about ten times that. Sometimes fifty.

Yahoo would probably be more of a burden. I don't think they'd be acquiring any useful technology, just some more users (the rest of the search users). The most benefit would be Yahoo's Search Marketing. But Google+Doubleclick almost make a monopoly now.

Google is already an Emperor in Internet Marketing, and Yahoo has its own significance.
Google need not to take over Yahoo in any sense.

Agreed, and quite frankly, I am not sure they could afford them.

Google is a good search engine in Internet Marketing, so google does not want to take over Yahoo in any sense.

I don't think they would, they have an incentive to keep Yahoo alive, if not they may be facing anti trust laws.

Yahoo market capitalization is only 1/10 that of Google, it is not inconceivable if you are talking about size alone.

Where did you come up with that non-sense?

    You're very off base.

    Unique Audience measures

    Google 124,000,000

    Yahoo 114,148,000

Yahoo is not and will not be for sale, they kick Googles butt in many ways most have no clue of...

Yahoo users are on the site 3 to 1 vs Google ;)

Google is trying to become a portal like Yahoo & MSN are and have been.

Yahoo Finance will tell we, we are talking about Market Capitalization not audience dear!

Well I must correct myself a bit as at now

    Google
    Market Cap: 179.72B

    Yahoo
    Market Cap: 28.99B

    Microsoft
    Market Cap: 311.07B

    6x larger not 10x

if something like this happens, Google's going to receive what Microsoft got when they were controlling internet browsers with Internet Explorer and ruined NetScape.

But... if then... it was said that no one could compete with IE, now Mozilla & opera are used by much more people every day. a new BIG internet company should appear.

Google may well buy yahoo but consider the amount it is supposed to pay for that and the financial return google would get after annexing yahoo into its fold. Though the google would become monopoly, it should not become a Pyrrhic victory for it;)

As big as Google is, I think they don't want to run the risk of becoming a monopoly.

Being as Yahoo is not a search engine there is no risk of Google becoming a monopoly.

    Google = search engine

    Msn & Yahoo = portal

There is a big difference between the two.

I think many would be best served learning what a monopoly is......

The reason why Microsoft was seen as a monopoly is that they tried to force all computer manufacturers to use their OS and threatened groups who tried to use another OS, thereby eliminating any competition.

Google has literally 1,000s of competitors and little they can do to squash competition.

I don't think Google has any real use for Yahoo

It would cost too much to buy Yahoo

Google could invest the same money elsewhere and get a much better return.
