I have a new blog and to gain traffic i have submitted it to many directories(didn't help), went to forums(people were lost in their own world.) submitted to social bookmarking sites(No use and no traffic from them). I worked for the traffic for about 25hours since four days and the result - :-( 140 page impressions 1 Click $ 0.39 I feel so pissed. The content i wrote is truly original and yeah i should agree that i didn't use any keywords but the blog is related to education niche. What do i do?
The URL of blog is http://dontstudyhard.blogspot.com Please help with any suggestions on what could be done to increase my traffic. I am posting the content of my own. No copied content or didn't even refer this from anywhere.
140 impressions in 4 days sounds pretty good to me for a new site. Don't sweat it, things will pick up but it won't happen immediately. You have to give it some time for search engines to pick you up and for people to start naturally finding the site. Don't expect all the traffic to show up on day 1 and click your ads 1000x.
I'll go ahead and send a little traffic your way. It may not convert right away, but it might help...
But i've worked for 25hours just to promote. And most of the traffic is from my friends to whom i've mailed and orkut which people wont visit again(most probably) Haven't got much any from the directories. I am not expecting 1000s of impressions but i've worked a bit. So what i am asking is what more do i do to promote it? I had a blog on sports car and all i did was just posted the matter on it and within four hours it was on the top of google for that keyword. Not the fact is that most of the content is copied from different sites n still it earned a good response. Why?
I'm not familiar with that niche. Is it one that is highly searched? Is your target audience just anyone who needs to study and learn or is it high school students, college students? The information is good and I'm sure all is TRUE, but it's a bit "dry" to read. I have a high school student and I believe it would not hold his interest for very long. Just my 2 cents. (perhaps he's not your target audience anyway) What about a few clickable text ads that would lead your visitors to other educational help tools (of which you are an affiliate) to further monetize the site ? I'm not an expert, I'm just talking from the standpoint of someone reading the blog and trying to gain from it. Hope that helps.
Could you explain the word "dry"?? Yeah it might not be appealing as i thought of keeping it simple. I really wanted to contribute to people and not just for the sake of earning that i wrote this. But i want to earn from it too. What should i do to make it better and any suggestions for promotions?
One of the best ways to promote a blog is a contest. For your niche, I'm not sure exactly what sort of prize you should offer, but a contest does wonders for getting the word out there in the blogosphere to attract readers. Not to mention it does a nice job of getting you some decent backlinks, especially since you can tell the contestants exactly what anchor text to use for the links.
I liked this Suggestion. I'll find out about that. But i think it would cost me a about $20-$30 for anything that i would offer. Wat say?
You don't have to spend anything really, except time. Take some time contacting other sites/companies in the same or similar niche and ask them if they would like to be a sponsor in your contest. In exchange for a prize in your contest they get a piece of the publicity generated by the contest. Collect enough sponsored prizes and you can have a pretty decent contest. Be sure to write a couple of posts about looking for sponsors and if you find a sponsor do a post specifically for them noting what they are offering for your upcoming contest. If you can generate a few hundred dollars in prizes you can get quite a bit of publicity for the contest. Anything smaller than about $100 will still likely be successful but may not generate as much buzz.
Be patient. Build more backlinks. Rank higher in Google. If your content is good, you have nothing to worry about. Traffic will come, it just takes some time. Keep working and never give up. Don't think about your profits.
Why would these guys be interested in a new blog like mine? Would you think they would entertain? Anyway i'll try to do that though. Thanks a lot for being elaborate zybron!!
I agree, it takes some, some blogs luck out and take off from day 1 like the example you had give, but most do not. Take your time, build it with quality and the visitors will come and hopefully return.
"Dry" means informative - yes - fun and exciting - no. If you tell them in the blog that following this advise will get them higher paying jobs so they can buy a new corvette or mazaratti (sp) then, hey, that might get my attention. As far as suggestions to monetize. I just went to google and typed in educational tools affiliate programs and a list of them came up in a directory listing at affiliatedirectory.com. I'd investigate some of those to see if they fit in with anything you're planning on blogging about. Then stick in a text link to that product. As I said, I don't know that niche so its hard to say which product does best, but I'm sure some research on your part could bring you to a product that would work for you. Good luck.
Thanks a lot for ur suggestion and time PAM. I'll do the research and see what would suit best. But it was really generous of u to search for my site.
But it wouldn't just be your new blog. Make part of the contest a section of text that must be included in the contestants blog post that contains links back to the sponsors. It could be something as simple as a listing of what prize they are sponsoring with a link back to them. The sponsors then get as much publicity as you do. If you pitch that to the sponsors then it really doesn't matter that your blog is relatively new, since they will be getting the links on every blog that participates in the contest. With some decent promotion that could easily be several hundred or even a few thousand websites. Let me know if you get the contest organized, too, I'll be happy to participate.
