They can't do anything to you. Their trademard is for 'porxify' not 'proxofy'.

Well they called and sounded pretty serious... Apparently they're on the forums, as they mentioned my post. I thought it was pretty funny but I went ahead and transfered the domain because I'm not really interested in being sued. My proxies cooler anyway. Aroundthefilter.com. I'm also trying something new I set up a hidden proxy its a Bio on some guy but guess what happens if you log in :) The domains a little bit suspicious though... Uberzomg.com. I just had it on hand an didn't feel like buying a new one to try this idea out.

    Exactly.

    Finally, the voice of reason.

    1. It's a trademark issue.
    2. If your site looks like a copycat, they have a legitimate gripe.
    3. If they satisfy the three ICANN requirements, then get it.

This is fairly common knowledge in the online game. Especially when picking domains. If you didn't know it, you do now.

i took a class on law with copyright infringment.
They CANNOT get you if its something TOTALLY different, thats if you have the same name with a dif TLD
If you get up a proxy site that is like it then they will have to deal with it, just look at their patent or whatever they have and see what they call "copyrite infringment" on their domain. Over the yearsm proxify has been blasting tons of people woh have domains just like that casue they DONT want anyone to get big like they are. they will send ANYONE that letter if they have "prox" then something that will sound like "ify" or any varaition just casue their bastards, yeh they are, if there looking at this post, "yes you are" you can rule over the proxy world, more will come out as they get blocked "DEAL WITH IT"
People send those stupid legal letters threatning legal action to each other all the time. I get those letters in the email from spam.

You ruined a perfect opportunity to have some fun with them. They are not going to spend any amount of money to sue you just for a domain. I bet they even hesitated to call you because they didnt want to pay for the call. They are greedy and you are only feeding them by giving in to their threats.

One of these days when I actually get the time im going to register a name that sounds just like it. Im going to copy their layout exactly just substituting their name with mine and then put it up. Ill also put my phone number in plain view telling them to call me for a good time. When they call I will talk like a girl pretending to be my secretary and put them on hold. I will then blare the crappiest music into the phone and 5 minutes later, if theyre still there, talk to them. If they start threatening me I will pretend to be all worried and when they tell me to send the domain to them and nothing will happen I will register a long domain that is making fun of them and send that one instead.

Lol wow, for someone to type out that long of a silly essay.. just comes to show how much of a life they have. I would reply 'rofl n00b' and delete the email. It's obviously a phonny email with someone trying to gain another domain. Funny how hard they try, and how miserably they fail.

Dont sweat it man...there is no possible way that they can know if you checked the email or not.
There is no way they can sue you for having a similiar name...I knew a guy who owned youtube.net and got threatened and still won his case. Try to find out who bought the domain name first...

That email looks like it's been copied and pasted. ;) Just edited slightly and added the instructions too the end too transfer it. I mean who the hell bothers too do that.

I wouldn't worry about it. Just move on.

Wow. I just got an email from them because I used the word "Proxify Me!" on two buttons on my free web templates. I replaced it with "Let's Go!", but I still think it's absurd. Oh well...

I has a similar issue but without another person.

    I just replied back saying

I never heard back for 3 months now an probably won't :D

    They are bogus ;)

Ah and btw, a legit email won't include details to transfer the domain to them ^^^
