Does any forum member have any direct experience of the Google penalty system, in particuler the -50 penalty. I am interested to hear from anyone who has experienced this for over marketing (too many links in the first year etc) rather than any more black hat techniques. Did you contact Google? How long did the penalty last? Any tips for other forum members on how to avoid etc.
One of my sites was hit with this penalty about 6 months back. I have now corrected the problems that got me hit in the first place; I have now filed a reconsideration request with Google. How long it will take? I don’t have a clue. Thanks Brian
we were told by some one who has been through it (for the same reason) that things should get back to normal in about 12 weeks - again this was for general over marketing for a youngish site, i really hope that is the case as like most webmasters every day is money lost!!!!! Brian, I am no expert but 6 months seems like too long to me, i would seriousley consider getting an expert on the case. Are you sure you addressed the problem fully?
I have only just sent the request to Google, so time will tell. I had lots to put right first. Some sites have started to return, hope more follow. Thanks Brian
yeah, we have taken a long hard look at things and the general opinion seems to be that we over marketed for a new domain, we seemed to have a 2stage exit from the google sandbox which all in all took about a year. We were doing far too well in the serps for a young site and although all of our marketing was above board i am told it was just too unnatural to be number one for so many terms. We were removed from Google, Yahoo, MSN and the rest for about 3 days then came back about 50 places lower than we were (-50 penalty) We have started to come back high now on MSN and getting higher on Yahoo but Google is taking a little longer.
Brian i would be very interested to hear the outcome of your case, please keep in contact - i'll also let you know how we get on. GOOD LUCK
one of my sites lost all its pagerank through aggressive link building, i didnt contact google as the serps were still good, that was the update before last and this update still no pr, but serps still going strong and thats the main thing
i would just wait and see then, i know pr is very often the currency for directories but serps mean more to all of us.
Its an ecommerce site so PR really has no relevance, it nice to have some PR but visitors make sales not PR.
I have bought a banned domain (without knowing) before and submitted a reinclusion request to Google and they resumed the rankings after a few weeks Reinclusion request also works if your site has been penalized for selling text links to manipulate SERP..
yeah seen the channel to go through to be reincluded i just though it would be worth hanging on for the penalty to be lifted naturally - think i might leave it another week and then do a reinclusion request though. ta for tips
What does "over marketing" mean? Building links too fast? How many links did you have that got you into to trouble?
Too many - avoid easy to submit to, low quality directories as they can become addictive - from now on its relevant links ONLY for us.
How marketable does a site have to be to get a penalty like that? I mean...is this relative to the market niche?
your serps will be down, your domain mat rank lower and if you are an e-commerce website, your bank balance will be down
