I've read many different things on meta tags. Primary questions are listed below: Q:Are too many meta tags a problem as well as too many repeated words (such as coupon, coupon site, coupon website etc...) Q: When trying to achieve better SEO or PR would I focus on individual pages such as a Verizon promotion and put keywords about verizon in the meta tags and the text or would it make a difference? Thanks.
"Are too many meta tags a problem" What do you mean by "too many meta tags"? There are meta tags that are being used, and tags that are absolete (not being considered anymore). I think the basic rule of thumb is this: don't put on a page something that you don't need. This relates to any type of html mark-up, meta tags, etc. As for too many repeated words... There is a certain range of % which your keywords should not exceed. For example, if you have 100 words in your content, and 20 words are the same, like the word "coupon", then it is a 20% presence. This is an obvious keyword stuffing, thus you will get a penalty for it. Try to keep it in the 3-6% range.
Thanks, and the first question was just asking if say 50 meta tags would be better than say 250 meta tags, even if all would be relevant to the content of the site or page
I agree - Also, dont stuff many keywords into the tags, don't want to be flagged as a keyword stuffer Good meta tag resources http://seotips.org/category/meta-tags/ http://www.seoconsultants.com/meta-tags/
Q1: For me, just put the keywords or tags that does not stuff keywords Q2: Yeah, keywords and keyphrases have different results in SEs
