I also usually buy from newegg, to be honest i think the best brand is Seagate, they give you great warranty for your hard drives. Since newer hard drives are so big in capacity they tend to crash more than older HDs. Most Companies only give 2-3 year warranty. Seagate gives 5 years on there drives
Seagate SATA is the best hard disk available as on date. Check whether the 500 gb is available in SATA II.

It's not about your hdd, it's your motherboard that should support raid. You need 2 identical drives to have a raid set up. I'd personally go for the 16mb buffer for now ... the 32mb ones are pretty new and I don't know how reliable they are. Using raid you will have speeds that can never be reached on ide/sata. Give it a try. You won't switch back, belive me.
