It is much easier to find names within expired lists than to get a specific name. As ruffnat said, the average person is at a huge disadvantage.

I use FilteredDomains dot com. It is a service that takes the expiring lists, filters them based on keywords, checks them for availability and then emails to my inbox every day.

The big players in the domain names business have invested big money in manpower, computing power and custom software to pick the eyes out of the expiring domains within milliseconds of them becoming available.

If you were checking on the domains you were after every 15 minutes, you probably missed anything worth having by about 14 minutes 59.999 seconds.

Even the sites that are keen to take your money for backordering domains will only feed on the crumbs left over after the big players have taken what they want.

So unless you access to the same technology that they have don't get your hopes up about being able to get hold of any high qualiy domains that you spot on those lists of pending drops.

I know that but after 2 days i know at what time these domains are being re-registered and tought luck the first day i was taking a bath the second day i was in the kitchen eating . Anyways without a proper software it is almost impossible to get the domain especially with my weak connection.

So if I bid, but I lose, it doesn't cost me anything right?

Probably sounds like a dumb question, but I just want to make sure.

    where are you bidding?

if you are trying to "snap" a name, you will probably have to pay something

but if you are just trying to buy a domain at an auction, once you are a member of the auction site (if they have membership) you only pay for domains that you win the auction for

i told my friend to backorder a domain for me in his account , the backorder failed even though it wasn't a domain that people wanted... they sent a message saying they couldn't get it and kept monetering the domain after we mailed them asking them to refund the money since we didn't get the domain they said we are sorry we can't refund payment if you want you can change the backorder to another domain.

They state that on their website clearly.

To me it seems fair enough, they are not keeping your money as you can use it to backorder another domain you may want in the future (or back order for someone else).

Did you check the situation before you used them?

Some registrars keep the names for auctioning off but others, in particular Network Solutions, will grab the name even if you just use their search box looking up availability. See this post: http://blog.domaintools.com/tags/network-solutions/
