I will have to disagree. More than 1/3 of the world's population is in asia.. IMHO it's a good investment if you can wait 2-3 years.
IMHO that is a poorly crafted argument and you are going to be throwing money down a drain. Is everyone in asia suddenly going to give up their ccTLDs and already existing gTLDs for this miraculous .asia? End users sustain the market, most of these new TLDs are all just speculators trading amongst themselves. Europe has .EU yet .de and .co.uk are two of strongest TLDs on the web. Why would asia suddenly behave differently from a place already organized with a central governing body like Europe (with the EU)? It doesn't make sense, id rather throw money into a toilet and flush it than buy .asia.
Maybe we should have a .america for all the americas & .africa for all the african countries. I wilsh you all the best with your .asia investment & will await the 2-3 years for you to prove me wrong.
.asia could do very well, indeed, not because of the population but because huge growing industry sector. Many different languages spoken across Asia so ccTLD might do better. Even so, if you live in Asia, grab as many generic names as you can for quick resell later. Good luck.
