Now, i haven't read this whole thread (13 pages wtf) but i have been using vista for about a year now, it has served me very well. It has been slow once or twice but vista is not as bad as people seem to think it is. The slowness is very exaggerated. There are a few flaws that i have found (some which don't seem to be public yet) but only one of them has been major so far. I have never had vista crash on me. The security is a bit bad however that can be disabled or changed. I have not found one program that has not worked on vista, scratch that, i believe one of the cracks that i used once didn't work. One thing i do not like about vista is the networking, however thats more of a pet peeve then an actual problem (private vs public lan networks screws with my mind). It seems to me that most of the people who bash vista openly have very little experience with it or they are just know Windows Xp as the norm. This tends to happen in many difference aspects of computers and life (people hated xp when it came out), and until very recently most people hated xp, anyone else notice that no one is bitching about how much xp "sucks" now?
Actually Vista is bloated and I know people don't like to hear it. Just check the requirement to run it. Remember this is and OS: which means it's suppose to be the layer between your hardware and the user that's it.
True, Vista is a bit "bloated", but just bring up System Config. and turn off everything you don't need under services. That alone will increase your performance a good deal
No, I was referring to like actual services (like WLAN Autoconfig, when you don't use wifi), not Aero or any of that. Vista is still a more stable operating system.
Do agree with most of what is said in this thread. I purchased a new HP with pre-installed Vista, got it up & running, within 2 hrs contacted HP about having it removed & installing XP. Their reply:- "Warranty will not be recognized,we do know that the general public are not liking Vista, but Microsoft tell us to keep persevering & they will. WE recognize that it is slow to start up & that it does use a lot of resources. At present (until Microsoft decided exactly what they want to do with XP) we are instructed to continue with Vista" I have since removed Vista & gone back to XP2 not worried about the B----y warranty,it is not worth anything anyway
I never get anything until it's been fully evaluated by the public... "The next big thing" ALWAYS has kinks in it until it gets re-released, then re-re-released...
The problem with vista, is that superfetch, that use most of the memory doesn't work properly (it is a good idea) but the implementation is very bad, plus a lot of incompatibilities with programs. If you use only office programs , maybe you don't have any problems but when you render something with Maya or DAZ and after and hour of waiting to finish the program crash because of a runtime error or security access problem( even I am login as administrator) you really start to hate it. Also I am software tester where I work and many software that are classified Windows Vista ready are crashing. I tested also Vista with SP1RC but things are not better. It is a RC but are not big improvements. And another thing XP with SP3 is much faster then Vista SP1. Also Vista is a also have big security flaws as XP. We made it (at work ) a test with viruses and scanning tools on Vista only,Vista with Kaspersky and Vista with SafeandSec, and Vista only is almost like XP.The only thing in plus is that annoying security "ask system" .
I'm running Vista right now, I hate it. I always go back and forth from XP to Vista. XP performs much better than Vista, and isn't loaded with a bunch of garbage
That's the software company's fault. Not Vista's. An older OS will always be faster and its hardware requirements will be less as its less advanced Every OS has vulnerbilities that are exploitable, there is no such thing as a secure OS. However, Vista is more secure than XP.
Vista works so complicated and so slow. They should have a way to make it faster just like that of XP...
Hopefully Microsoft get it and decides to go with consumers and release a more leaner and meaner Vista.
It's resource intensive. If you've got the right configuration (hardware specs) it'll work good for you
