My forum has a 2GB+ database, During peak time more than 500 users use the forum and it uses 70GB of bandwith which is increasing. After reading different reviews and searching i am willing to go for The Planet Dedicated server with following specifications, Do you think it can handle my forum well?

    Specifications
    - Intel Celeron 2.4GHz+
    - 80GB Hard Drive
    - 1024 MB RAM
    - 1500 GB Bandwith
    - IPs 5
    117$ Monthly

Considering the reputation of theplanet.com do u think its a good deal and can handle my needs? and what if i want to start another blog on this server as well i am new so want help regarding this

    CPUBenchmark.net
    a CELERON 2.4?
Probably NOT with 500 people at one time
    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Celeron+2.40GHz
take a look at that link
You WONT get far with a celeron 2.4, rating is only 302,
BTW: for a celeron 2.4 for $117 YOUR GETTING SCAMMED!!!
    platinumservermanagement.com if you want managing.
You can get a decent P4 3.0 or even a Core2Duo around that price if you find a good deal
A P4 would be better atleast
Celerons are being unloaded as their becoming more available by hosts after P4's are getting cheap
use a celeron for small website hosting nad a tooling server

i am not a fan of celeron when it come to database driven sites or huge sites.
    At least P4 is better

with that price you could get a Pentium 4 with these specs (not from me)

Intel P4 2.8GHz Single Core CPU
    120GB Hard Drive
    1024MB DDR-400 RAM Memory
    4000GB Premium Bandwidth
    5 ips
    cpanel/whm ($30/m value)
    100 mbps port ($10/m value)
    Free Setup
    $119 Monthly total

    Probably not.

    We had a forum:
    custom-made forum system
    no control panel
    P4 2.6 Ghz
    1.5 GB RAM

Most of the time, 500-600 users online, the server can handle it. But during the peak time (around 1000), it's quite slow.
But what we are using is a custom-designed forum script, so your mileage may vary.

Anyway, if you can provide the specification of your current server, we may give you more suggestions.

And, if you have decided to go with ThePlanet, why not use their ready-to-go plans http://www.theplanet.com/dedicated-servers/ready-to-go-servers.asp , $129 P4 + 1GB

If you haven't decided, you may compare more good plans at http://www.hostingmatrix.org/dedica...h+Staminus+FDCServers+LayeredTech+VolumeDrive

Since your original question was whether or not theplanet is a good source, I am going to go ahead and say YES!!

Sixty6 Hosting has been using theplanet for nearly 3 three years. Before theplanet, we used LayeredTech, but they did the dumbest thing that nobody (web host or not) would allow - they had a major outage one day, didn't even bother emailing their users and left all of us w/o an answer to questions coming in from all sides...

Despite if their prices is high, their service is good and efficient.

You need to cater for your future needs and I think a Celeron is not enough (and that price is too high for one).
