Go through online directories and look up sites that have similar content to your own. Then email them kindly asking for a link exchange. You do enough of them, you'll find a few gems that are willing to trade

I haven't seen much good come from directories yet.... I'm wondering if Google isn't giving them weight anymore.
Creating a unique quality content may help to increase back link. Becuase if someone find out that your content is useful to there site they will add your link naturally.

Use either digital point's Coop Ad Network or Link-Vault. No need to get traditional links anymore. I have found Link-Vault combined with news feeds works great!
