I'm looking to buy a new pc please help me choose one.

I have a fairly large budget, up to $2000.
    I dont really play games.
    It needs to be fast.

    Anybody have any suggestions?

    what are your OS preferences?
and what do you intend to use for, if not games? because some works may also require as much such as a gaming pc.

Go for windows xp with the highest possible RAM capacity, may be 2 gb or more. No vista... Beware :p

I've got vista 64bit, no problems with any software so far, only my (very old) printer which doesn't work with it.

I'd say get 4GB DDR3 RAM, with Vista 64bit (32 is cheaper, but more compatable -- so people say), a semi-decent gfx card, a decent motherboard with capacity for more than 4GB RAM (usually 8 I think) and a sata hard drive as big as you want. The HD will depend on what you use the computer to store and how much you need/use.

XP can only handle 2GB RAM, anymore and it just won't use it. 2GB RAM is still good.

not sure much bout the price of hardware in your country but your new PC should be like P4 duo core and 4 GB ram at least to be able to run fast on any programs and OS. if you are a gamer dont forget a good graphic card too.

With that money you can easily buy a Quad Core with 4 GB Ram, 500 GB HDD and put Windows XP and Mac OS X (hacked for PC) on it.

I got my new computer from Ebay...
People told me not to due to not getting a waranty, etc, but I found a company selling who give waranties, etc with their computers.

Newegg is supposed to be good (if your in the US).

    So am I.

Have a look on Ebay, you can get really good deals on there.

I'll get back to you with some other sites (just need to find them again).

Oh and you will want a quad core processor. Intel or AMD, doesn't really matter much, AMD is generally seen as the better.

You should consider going online and building your own or using a major player like Dell or HP sites to have them assist you in building your computer. For the money this is the easyest for someone in your position... You can get some pretty sweet deals...:)
