Im fully aware of the impact and effect of this thanks. but how does that confirm that subdirectories are bad for a site?
I should of said it differently now that I look back, I ment the incorrect usage of sub directories can have a harmful effect on your site, sorry for the mis-commincation on that.
I use a subdomain for content that I don't want on my real site. Affiliate content is a good example that I don't want mingled with my original content because of it's duplicate nature. Another use of a sub domain is for "theming". You can put different themes on different subdomains. That way each subdomain will rank higher for it's theme. But don't go crazy with this idea. Do it for major themes like autos on one subdomain and boats on another. I wouldn't split every type of auto out to it's own subdomain.
You can use your subdomain to take advantage of the new Google Geographic Targeting Tool. Google Webmaster Tools formerly known as Google Sitemaps has seen recently the introduction of Geograhic Targeting in the tools it offers to webmasters. Essentially, it allows webmasters to inform Google of which country they want to target, by selecting this country in their account. Country domain specific TLDs such as .cn, .ca, .co.uk etc. Will be automatically set to the countries they refer to.
can you break this down slower. so if if I stick www.switzerland.pizzas.com as a sub on g webmaster tools I get two sites on g account. I am 50/ 50 to declaring u a nutter or genius.... It would make sense, but for my niches presently... UK I am stuck. Give it a year, and that would be cool. More confused than ever over subs
Thought so. The Erik post did not make sense, and I think a bit confused. Nice picture from Eric, is that his girlfriend?
I am gonna try an eSyndicate directory ona sub to link back from. What would be the bad news on doing this?
