What is it to be being your problem? I am to apologise for inability of english grammar to be being perfect I do type as I am thinking. In real world I do be having proof reader for working in planet internet I do not.
the templates have nothing, absolutely nothing to do with aviva getting back with google a secret would be something that was kept for a reason and the reason would be? isnt this forum for directory owners to help each other out not to form some kind of elite club keeping information from others
hmm i dont know what is wrong with you ... the list of fixes were on google blog. If you read that and see what matt told jeff the reason why aviva got back is there. Now the reason all those reasons were a secret because no one really bothers to read the blog and especially the comments. No one here suggested that templates have anything to do with aviva getting back except for you with your criticism. The reason why i pointed out my template was because of the logo and what is the message i am trying to send ... obviously you were not smart enough to grasp that. If directory owners still promote they will not loose traffic and still get submission because i know many of the directory owners has stopped promoting. Matt Clearly told jeff to remove all the interlinking that was done on the aviva network. Remove all the 301 redirects from domains to avivadirectory.com as it was being done, and Matt also suggested to clear up the submit form. Now i dont see there is any template changes mentioned by Matt in the post.
Syed, you asked for our thoughts... First off, I am pleased Jeff has got back in the SERPS, I have seen a few others creeping back up including some of my own so this is good news. However I don't think it was totally as a result of Jeff following Matts advice, this is part of something larger because there are just too many variables which are affecting too many directories (now in a positive way, for a change). And as you said yourself, several of us don't read that blog and were unaware of Matt's comments and thus wouldn't have followed that advice. I do agree that none of us should have stopped promoting our sites however that has to be taken in proportion to the loss of income which many would have seen. There has also been a small shift in how directories are being promoted too. As to the comments made by Matt that you linked to in your first post. Personally I feel that this is the same crap spouted by Google's mouthpeice that always gets spouted, and that is quite simply: Double Standards. He advises us as webmasters to remove interlinking from our web sites, yet it is perfectly fine for Google to do it (even in the case that Google aquires new sites, they add them to this page as well as others): http://www.google.com/intl/en/options/index.html Try, orkut.com which links back to Google in the footer, or Blogger.com which links through to Google Groups, Google Store and Blogspot. Or perhaps Youtube.com which links back to Google in the header and footer of every page. He advises us to remove 301 redirects, yet again, it is perfectly fine for Google to do it: www.gooogle.com www.goolge.com www.gogle.com But as they say, all is good because they are Google and they can do as they please.... so can I.
you might be right but at the same time, Google doesnt link to blogger as a sitewide link, nor they link from blogger back to google sitewide... and they dont point a domain name like www.crappyjoemoe123crapcrap.com to google.com/crappyjoemoe123crapcrap/ ... they registered misspells and redirected them to the right spelling. thats it.
No Google doesn't link out sitewide but they certainly link back sitewide. Look at the homepage of Blogger.com in the footer they have links without rel=nofollow pointing to inner pages of groups.google.com, blogspot.com and googlestore.com. Now click on the Help section, you will see those same links on every single page within the Help section of the help.blogger.com sub-domain, as well as other pages. They also have similar linkage on Youtube and Feedburner. As I said, Matt is telling us that this type of linkage between our network sites is not acceptable, but for Google it clearly is. As for the misspellings, they do it for the same reason we do and that is traffic. It is not always some crappy domain name being used, usually they are high traffic type in domains. And trust me, with several thousand domains to their name I assure you they are not just pointing mispelled domains, not all 301's: googleimageads.com 466453.com adwords.com adwordsgoogle.com igoogle.com pageadgooglesyndication.com Or if that doesn't convince you, buy a company, stick up a doorway page with every link pointing to Google: appliedsemantics.com Either way, their Do No Evil policy is only restricted if your part of the Googleplex, otherwise they couldn't care less. Again, just IMHO.
With the misspelled domains they are protecting their brand names. they are newely registered so the only traffic that gooogle.com might have is because somebody has mispelled google.com. you can't blame them for that and they are not stealing the traffic from someone else. However I think that redirecting expired domains to relevent sections to the directory is a smart and good thing to do, google don't like that only because with the 301 redirection the directory will benefit from all links of the expired domains. The safest thing to do is to use 302 redirect to benefit only from the traffic and in the same time give those visitor a useful resource. I am sure that when penalizing a website for Interlinkg, many other factors are taken into account, that's why google can link to its other services when they think they are useful for their visitors.
whats "wrong with me" is that you talk about some secret knowledge you have but when it comes out its nothing more than could have been found on the google blog..if people like yourself would have some kind of sense of community and tell the community you try to keep this information to yourself which is to the benefit (possibly) of others and when you actually do decide to tell us what it is..well you go off talking about how we must all continue promoting, that you have a new template out? oh wait no, sorry..its because of the message you're logo is trying to send?? what are you talking about? does anyone know?..including you? I think Jeff's redirects caused a problem due to it raising the possibility of manipulation in googles eyes buying a dropped domain that used to be an organisation and using the 303 is passing more than just traffic and as mhamdi said a traffic only redirect would be safer I also agree that there are more factors to be taken into account with this case and others, the majority of which we can only guess at but we have to try to start somewhere
Thanks for the useful topic. You provided some useful info along with a positive note for moving forward. I think the lesson here is if you are interested in Google traffic then "clean up your site and ask for Google re-inclusion". Either way, Directory owners must promote their directories to be successful but they will have to do be more subtle, without the aid of interlinking and sitewide links.
Agreed.... and well said We can sit here and point fingers but in the end just have to figure out what is causing the problems and fix it so that we can move forward... thx malcolm
the truth is that half of the other people including you didn't know about that comment so it was still a secret.
