Ok, so I am preparing to pay a large sum of money to somebody for a specific domain name. I have never done this before and I am just wondering if there is a checklist of sorts, that I should make sure are completed, before I send any money to this person.

    Thank you all,

    Travis

I would check links to domain name and pr. I would make sure site is topic you need and that it has been around for awhile.

Make sure to use paypal if possible that way you can dispute money if they never transfer domain name over to you.

the domain name is not being used and never was used...

True paypal is a good idea.

What about paperwork? Is there any official domain buying type paperwork or just a general written agreement?

Doesn't the registrar of the domain name need to be contacted by the seller?

No paperwork, you will just need auth code info to start the transfer and the domain needs to be unlocked. if it is a large amount i suggest you use escrow.com service for safety.

Ah ok thank you all. I will sign up for the escrow service now.

Sorry, a domain appraisal won't serve any purpose without the idea that goes along with the domain name. And I don't think I'm disclosing the idea till the project is live.

    Thank you all again!
