How much is to be being realistic monies to be putting aside for directory project launch please? I am not to be being interested in promotions of scripts please I am to be being interested in business plan advices.

I would say realistically around $8 - $10 FOR A .com, $5 for monthly hosting, say around $25 for a decent script.

You can pick up a free template or a really cheap non exclusive one for around $30.

This is for a basic setup, you could actually blag the lot if you really needed to, you could get everything mentioned for free but as a basic setup it wont break the bank.

The next stage of the plan is up to you and has no limit in costs i imagine.

Adding onto what pipes suggested I would say that a custom template goes a long way in attractive a few more submits.

With Joomla i haven't used it yet i know plenty of the extensions are free but some cost a few $$ too, i wouldn't like to guess on something i haven't used but i imagine that similarly it can cost very little or quite a bit depending on your requirements, naturally if your paying someone else to get it all together for you then you already need some money aside for that.

I am not sure you should go with Joomla Jaboora, I think it is a good way to populate your web directory with content, although there are scripts dedicated to work as link directories. Many of them offer new and powerful features, which allows you to populate it with content, perhaps that could be a better choice?

If you however, wish to have a unique web directory, you could use Joomla as not many use it for their web directories.

Couple thousand would set you up really nice for a long run. I would advise to not put all your eggs in one basket though.

b, What will be the primary language used by the editor for listing resources

c, Who will be editing the directory, you ? and in what language

d, Do you truely believe the profit figures often quoted by occasional visitors to this forum

answers to those questions might or might not help you

 

You need to came with something new in this business & you need to promote it to get some $$$$ from it. You do not have the guarantee that you will get your money back, because Google ripped our heads off with the latest penalisations. It depends on you how much you want to invest, and this decision will, of course, influence your revenue. Directory business is a riscky one.
If you do it only for the money,think again. If you do it as a hobby and you do it good (offer something unique to the submitters, quality + uniqueness is king), you might get some revenue from it.
If you would have tryed to get some serious money from directories, you could have done that in the past, like Aviva & Alive Dirs,etc.
Depending on your budget I will try to invest in other projects, where I could probably be sure that the least I get my invested money back.
