Should I disable email verification for my forum? I have problem with sending mails and many users are not getting verification mails? any harm in disabling email verification? I have no need for the mailing list.
The only harm is that you could end with a lot of spam. The best advantage of email verification is that they have to go through verifying their account. This means that they can not use fake email and most spammers do not want to waste that much time. Of course, the downside is that if your mail system is not working properly, you may be losing a lot of valuable members who would have joined. I say disable it until you figure out the problem.
i think my prob is my host... it keeps telling me i have reached 500 mails per hour limit. i really don't know how that is possible for a forum with 1800 members and e-mail features disabled. only emails being sent are new member verification and password reset mails.
SPAM can result in this, however you could disable until you fix the problem as mentioned above. What forum software are you using?
Also the problem is if you turn on the email and your veirfication email will be in your member's junk mail list and they were never receive it and they will just go away.. nothing wrong with those SPAM user at least they will increase your member's count and all you need do is delete the SPAM and ban the user. If people want to SPAM your site, free email is very easy to get..
