Beginners luck???? but now what do I do?

ok, I came to this forum hoping I'd learn a bit more about SEO and web sites etc.

The reason being is that I have been doing things marketing online, low and no cost, that have gotten me traffic and sales and it was all a test to see if I could make money online.

ok, so I did, and now others are asking me to do this for them. I had no idea what to charge and made sure they knew that I consider myself a novice at this and so charged them nothing to begin with. Well, now I've done it for 2 of my sites and 5 of my friends and they are telling others.

So, they are telling me I should do this for pay but how can I when all I do is what I know worked for me but I don't know any of the tech behind?

Also, I'm not even sure I want to do this for strangers anyway.

So, could you direct me to others that do this and what they charge and what kind of business they are getting etc. so that I can decide what to do, if anything?

    Thanks

P.S. Oh, by the way, I have an extensive business background, just no experience in the internet technical side of things.

You could just generate the sites for them and sell it outright. For pricing look at your sites and those you have done for your friends for their monthly earnings. Sell at whatever multiple of that number the market will bear.

You might provide a file explaining how you got yours to earn money so they can do the same.

I have sent you a PM.

    David,

Thank you. I responded to your PM. I don't want to sell my sites. It is just the matter that after I did this for my friends, now they have told others.

I don't want to keep doing it for free as I'll be overwhelmed with work.

But how do I charge when I don't really have any background in this.

I just have come across a 6 step process that has worked every time so far.

What would a regular SEO person charge to get someone on page 1 of google?

    Thanks

Well, that is just it. Others have asked me ever since my friends told others about their success. I've gotten calls and don't know what to say.

Smattering is helping to figure this out so as soon as I know something, I'll let anyone know.

    1) Please don't tell people you will get them to "Page 1 of Google" unless you are doing it for a competitive keyword every time like Mortgage, Loan, Linux, SEO, Directory etc... or even a highly searched keyword. Anyone can get anything to #1 for google if the term is "I am a nerd and I play WoW all day"

    2) As far as what to charge, I would come up with an hourly rate then charge them by the hour, so if you 6 step process takes 10 hours then charge them $65-$85/hr until you know you can demand more.

    Linsys,

Thank you for that advice. That is what I'm talking about. I don't even know if I want to do this anyway.

But if I did, $65 - $85 an hour. OK.

I would have to see the 6 steps ;) to see if it's a long process, and how labour intensive it is, hint, hint, would you like to share, then I could give you a realistic price or quote.

I was searching around a little, and believe I came across your blog. Is this regarding getting someone's formal name to the front page of Google?

Everybody and their brother is looking to get on page one, and many of them know all about SEO. With so few placments on page one, what makes anyone think that he can get there just because he does the SEO?

No, it is not getting someones formal name to #1 that is a PPC type thing.

And I don't intend to tell anyone I can do anything.

I was just saying I've got this system I have used and people are asking me now to help them and since I consider myself a novice at this but have proven to myself that I can do it for different sites and different key words that actually result in income for these people, what I should charge if I should even do it at all since I really am not trained in this.

    That's all.

And that blog is not about this.

Hi, If you want to do it AND your confident in your skills then 65-85/h is reasonalbe, however if someone pays you and suddenly your system fails and you can't get results they won't be happy. If you are going to do it I suggest either trying it many more times to ensure it is consistent, or charge people a small set set fee and a deposit fee, and if you are unsuccessfull then they get the deposit back but you still keep the set fee because you put your time into it. IF your not interested in doing it you could say flat out no, or you could write an ebook on your method, and when people ask you say that you won't do it but you'll sell them your method. You like numbers so i'll say depending on how good the method is, an ebook could sell for between 30 and 50 dollars if it got good reviews.

    Jacob,

Thank you for the suggestions. I don't think I want to create an ebook or teach it to anyone else. I think I will do it for a few more friends in the areas like some other people mentioned and make sure it works for them.

After the PM's I got, I think the best way to go is do it for people I know and take a percentage. That way they aren't out anything upfront and I get paid when I know it works.

That or I just won't do it at all except maybe I'll just create more sites myself. I don't know yet. I have to think about all this.

I do appreciate all the advice and suggestions I got here and via PM.

Well, I'm still not exactly sure what I'm going to do, but I wanted to come back and say that I did what one of the posters here suggested and tried my 6 step system on some high traffic key words.

I'm not going to list them because if I give out too much information I think someone else might figure this out.

Anyone, I picked a very high traffic one and I got the site I was working on to #1 in google and it was not someones name and I didn't pay any money to do it.

I did three in all. the second one made it to position 7 in google
and the last one made it to position 11.

That is all in the last 2 days only. So the thing is to see how long they stay there. So far, all day today.

    Just an update.

Maybe this is just propaganda and the pre sales pitch ....... ?
Show us some proof, for example start with a new URL / Page and give us a live example - just so we can watch the progress.
