I don't see the point in them do people, other than webmasters, actually use them? the link juice for them must suck, so what's the point in that and why do so many people take the time to submit their sites to them
LOL, do u have any directories ? Why do u think we have a dedicated section for directories on DP ? Do u know any thing about link juice & backlinks ? 1st answer the above questions and the other guys will be soon joining the party
You seem very unfamiliar with SEO. I would advise to learn the basics of SEO, one of them is link building. - Meti
Because they prefer to do it than buying condoms or listening to idiots as we have here from time to time.
I have 4 and look at it from both sides, as a submitter and a owner. They have helped me Meth, in the sense that submitting to other help promote me sites, the backlinks help in the serps, i want to rise in the serps so use them. Im always submitting to them, if i felt it wasn't helping and couldn't see the changes i would stop submitting to them.
think that goes for everyone you dont have to research too far to realise theres benefit in submitting so many webmasters would not be wasting their time with directories if this was not the case believe me
Hi guys, I think at one time the directory links were definitely helpful. I am not too sure that is true anymore. I think Google has gotten a lot better at differentiating directory links, from sites linking because there is a substantial interest. I also think that Google is more and more relying on internal data collected via its toolbar and Google Analytics, to make SERP ranking decisions. I think that the importance of backlinks is probably diminishing though certainly they are used as one contributing factor. I did not see any real effect of directory links on my domain, which is what led me to question the value of directories. But I would be interested in any further information on this subject. Rich
Links from directories are always helpful. Always have been always will be. People need to realise that all the recent issues with directories was NOT because they charge a review fee but because of other factors like buying and selling paid sitewide links and not using no-follow attributes on them and a few other issues. Read This on googles offical blog Once these directories have resolved the issues they will all return to the same postition as before as we have just seen with the return of aviva directory. And once all the good directories return to where they belong we can then start on getting rid of all the directory doubters from these forums starting with the OP as of late their is too many of them posting there crap here and driving away some of the best members these forums have.
Directories are more important than before, specially after the Google's policy regarding the Paid Links I think you will find directories more secure and safe place where you can get back link as well as security for being caught due to paid link!
Thats a very good point. Since Google changed their policy towards paid links, now directories that accept free links are the only way to go without getting your website punished.
Why do people submit to my directory? 1. I do send targeted traffic to the sites listed! 2. 80-90% of the people who visit my site are not submitters and do leave my site through a link rather than the back button. 3. My site only lists useful sites, unlike the MFA crap that litters the search engine results. I'm picky about what I include on my directory - the search engines are not. 4. It helps advertise their site and build backlinks. 5. My listings are free - none of this paid to review BS. I answered your question, now answer mine... What did you hope to gain by coming to an area of this forum dedicated to directory owners and ask a question that you knew would get people angry by filling your question with derogatory comments? You certainly didn't expect that people would treat you with respect did you?
and i also think you will find that paying for a review in a directory is ok with Google as Matt cutts has said many times the issue with paid links is people selling and buying them to pass link juice
