It should not be illegal to deny it happened, even nutjobs should have freedom of speech no matter how offensive it is.

I agree. Creating legislation against it would be against freedom of speech and that is definetely not worth it, even though it is really bad to say that it never existed.

That this is even a question in the "free world," especially France, is quite a shame.

People should seriously stop calling it "holocaust denial". No one denies the holocaust happened, people merely disagree on the statistics.

    * I'm not harping on the OP, I'm just saying this "in general".

What the hell are you talking about? I don't deny the holocaust, i believe it happened, More or less, Exactly as historians say.

You are proving that most people see free speech as the freedom to agree with them. You assumed that because i defended someones right to say something that i must agree with what is being said.

I am defending their right to say something that you may disagree with, Not defending the point they are making.

    (And learn to spell Atheist)

Did you tell your momma on me?

I think people should have the freedom of speech no matter how dumb they are - including letting athiest like you preaching your religion while trying to demean other religions.

Believe it or not, there are people who do not believe the whole thing. They believe it is all a conspiracy, which is just ridiculous...

I wish I could change my vote. I should have voted "yes, holocaust denial should be illegal". Unfortunately, I voted with the crowd. :(

You're so hip, coming into threads in the politics and religion forum to express your apathy about the given topic. How about you cut out the middle step and just don't show up? Never seen someone waste the time to post here about how they don't care about the discussion occurring here.

And you are very fast to jump on. Having a bad day?

It's not that I don't care about the topic, I just don't care about whether Holocaust denial is legal or illegal. I think that is what OP is trying to ask, people's opinion.
How is it wrong to give your opinion?

I'm not a Jew, I'm not an anti-Jew, I don't live in one of those countries, I believe that every sovereign country has rights to create and follow laws that suits them. So why should I care if 17 countries out of 194 in this world feel that holocaust denial is a crime?

World war's lessons haven't been learned so the holocaust, real or not, has served no other purpose than empowering few nations and demonised others...

And that pales in comparison to what we see in the Islamic world. The restrictions on free speech, as opposed to them as I am, are nothing compared with the oppressive Islamic regimes whose intolerance of speech and freedom of religion are based on religious doctrine. See Saudi Arabia as an example.

Do you also stand against the shameful government religious oppression in Saudi Arabia?

It's impossible to change anything in Saudi Arabia because of support they get from someone.

Does America still uses the death penalty?

Are there still people in Guantanamo bay being jailed and tortured without trials?

And what about the previous general elections discrepancies?

    Ignorance is bliss :D

People need to take some fucking responsibility for their own situation. You have the audacity to blame American for the oppression in Saudi Arabia. That oppression has being going on since long before there ever was a United States. Seriously, you are blaming the Islamic oppression of freedoms in Saudi Arabia on America?

So I take it you support the US efforts to bring freedom in Iraq then right?

Oh, you probably want it both ways. US is Bad for taking out Saddam, Bad for not helping bring freedom to other Arab nations.

Where did I said that America is one to be blamed for oppression in Saudi Arabia?!? Can you quote me where did I do that?!?
I said, and I will repeat it clearly: you beloved US is biggest supporter of "the shameful government religious oppression in Saudi Arabia". Without your support there may be chance for changes but with your support those chances are very, very weak.

Well, I honestly doubt freedom have something to do with your occupation.

Who's talking about bringing freedom there? I am talking about supporting dictators. One thing is not to do anything and other thing is to actively support dictators which is what you are doing.

Those that deny it ever happened should be jailed(they poison our society by misinformation). Freedom of speech can be allowed to those who are doubtful of the statistics, however. As long as they got reasonable proof to doubt them (statistics), and not merely being vindictive or apologetic.

So you agree with freedom of speech so long as its not deliberately false? Wasn't it Voltaire who said "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?
