Hello guys. I'm pretty new here as member but were a reader of this forum for a long time. What the case regarding to the subject: Recenty I bought a nice domain name: kongpoker.com ( Creation Date: 28-dec-2007) But soon I found that this domain were registerd by someone before and dropped at March 04, 2007. So I was able to register it to me. And just few days ago I found that this domain is listed as domain for sale at sedo.com (domain auctioneer) here: http://sedo.com/search/details.php4?domain=kongpoker.com Well, I am contacted sedo.com and notify them that this domain is listed without the permissions on their websites. They answered to me next day and request next things from me to prove that this domain is actually mine: "Please send a screen shot attachment of your Registrar account containing all of the following information? * domain name * period of registration and expiration date * your contact data matching the data in your Sedo account The reason for this is that the domain has Privacy Protection and I can not verify the owner." I'm registered this domain at name.com and their control panel does not show all the data at one screen. So I will need to make at least three screenshots. I'm really lazy person and I am asked sedo people just verify the listings with prev. owner or a person who listed domain. Also to prove a rights for this domain and website I am posted a message to sedo people with short quotation of their message to me. And guess what happend next? I've been refused to remove the listing. Also they trying to push at me next way: " .. it has also been advised to me that under our confidentiality statement (which can be read under the signature information); e-mail correspondence is not to be shared. Our legal department has been notified that confidential email correspondence has been published in a public forum. .." And their confidentiality statement as it attached to email: " Confidentiality Statement: This e-mail, including attachments, may include confidential and/or proprietary information, and may be used only by the person or entity to which it is addressed. If the reader of this e-mail is not the intended recipient or his or her authorized agent, the reader is hereby notified that any dissemination, distribution or copying of this e-mail is prohibited. If you have received this e-mail in error, please notify the sender by replying to this message and delete this e-mail immediately" Funny they send me a message and I can't show this to anyone? It seems like I must eat their letter after receiving Looking great, but where is this freedom of speech rights now? Of course I can remove the "privacy portection" from domain name and anyone will able to see who is the owner. But It's pretty strange to me that I must prove it, not sedo.com is worried about legitimacy to sell someone elses property. So could you please give me any advices what I should do in this case? Any opinions are welcome. I am really new in this "domain names" games. Thanks for your patience reading this guys. Cheers, Eugene.
I had a similar situation with one of my domains at Afternic (and I didn't have private WHOIS). They completely ignored all my emails and the only way I managed to get them to remove the domain was to keep bidding on it until the "seller" eventually got tired of rejecting my offer and deleted it themselves. With Sedo, I can understand their point of view as if it was easy to get a domain with WHOIS privacy removed from their system there would be trolls doing it all the time. My advice would be just to take the three screenshots if you really need it removed - it's a pain to have to take the time I understand, but I imagine it could have been done in less time than writing your forum post. I wouldn't worry about the confidentiality statement - lots of companies add something like this to emails - you've signed no agreement with them and are not bound to something just because they say so.
If you own that domain, all registration etc is under your name. It may be a very good idea to check the domain and make sure that it is "locked". Also, you may want to inform your registrar about the auction going on at Sedo. This may help prevent any "unfortunate" transferring of the domain from them - mistakes can happen. All in all, even if Sedo sells that domain, it has no authority to move it to anyone else.
Thank you all guys for your responces. 2 norfstar - it's pretty sad that there is not so much companies in domain names who worried about their reputation. I think that sedo is better then it shows in this case. 2 decepti0n - yeah I'm still own this domain and running my website on it and if they sell it they will lie to the bidder that this domain can be purchased. Seems to be a good way to increase their maket share They sure must begin sell something like cnn.com 2 Claudek - thank you, I've just checked it and sent a letter to registrar about this issue following your comments. Thanks for that.
Well you're right. I was just trying to notify them about posssible errors in their listings. What's funny: they wanted me to do their job.
lol this makes me laugh when you have the domain in hand and the website is listed in there sell list why do you worry ? you get free extra hits from them think about it and may be you get quick indexed in search engines for that reason wish i was on your place to have that happened with me.
lol, they were selling one of my domains before I even registered! Guess it's a good idea to look for good domains on sedo for sale that haven't been registered yet
No worries mate about indexing, it's already did. (shh... I know magic word lol Their few hits they may leave'em as change as some info: Listing at sedo may be a reason for pessimisations or filters..
It's probably happend because you're bought expired domain which was previously registered and maybe listed by someone else.. Domain a rare resource and this happend sometimes. Here is a listings of "dropped" domains, but for .com they really hard to catch.
It may be something. If the person that wins the bid on Sedo's auction decides to try and sue to get the domain they could conceivably also include the present owner of the domain. I don't think that there is a strong chance that they would take the domain away but it could create an unwelcome hassle, not to mention having your domain name dragged through the mud if Google indexes public posts about the disagreement and lawsuit.
I thought every domain is possibly for sale by sedo, don't they say that they can try to acquire any domain for you by acting as a middle man in negotiating?
I would let them do what they do and I would make screenshots of the auction and when the auction is finalized I would sew them and demand a keep my mouth shut portion hahaha.Serious
It could be that the earlier owner must have put it on sale. That could be the only reason why it was listed as for sale.
Yes you're right, but does not they must remove it from listings when earlier owner dropped domain name, (it's happend in april or around) and they got notification that new owner does not want to sale this domain at all?
