Hey guys, I just saw on www.lunarpages.com that they up'ed their plan to 1,500 GB Storage and 15,000 GB bandwidth. That's really good. Does anyone use them? If so, how do you like em'? Are they good? Fast? Reliable? Thanks!

    Regards,

I've used them in the past but found them to be a little difficult to use.. I'd use another host.

That's just massive overselling. You'll never be able to use even 10% of that.

this is your personal opinion, quite frankly some of the most successful hosting companies have been over selling for years and years.

So, as long as the hosting company monitors its server usage and manages its resources and infrastructure so that the quality of the service is not affected, overselling is not a negative aspect. Overselling however, keeps prices at low rates. If there would be no overselling, few of us would have phones and those who would have, would pay some high fees to use them.

Even the bandwidth providers oversell. My point so far is that overselling is not necessarily a good thing, but it's not necessarily bad either. The only problem is that is has to be done right, with careful planning. That said, I would read lots of reviews of the host you intend to use, call the provider too and see how quick you get someone on the phone....or submit a support ticket and check the response time.

    best of luck!

I agree, but there is also the customers it attracts: usually newbies who sometime manage to take a whole server down with a proxy or a crappy script. A regular plan isn't as attractive for them.

I have been with them for almost a year now with 11 sites on my shared plan. I'm very happy with them. I've only had 2 problems that I couldn't figure out myself with some scripts over the year. So I created support tickets and I was satisfied with their response time in resolving the issues.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind...

Well, I'm worried, because I know I'll need a lot of bandwidth for my video tutorial's site, I just can't spend 700-800 bucks on a dedicated lol ya know?

    I'll see :D

Check file-services.com which is a file serving host (similar to Amazon S3 but at a fraction of the price)

    How big are those vids?

Then you could better check site5, it's half of what they're offering and it's for 5$/mo .... But then you know you're not stuck with overseller and service is excellent. (link in sig. or just go to site5 .com)

Why would anyone need 1.500GB storage :p When you need that much storage, you also would have a lot of visitors and hence a nice income. With that you should get proper hosting on a dedicated server right? :p I don't get it that people always want to sit on the first row for 1$... you just have to pay for quality, and quality is something that you should want to give to each and everyone of your visitors imo.

All of the most popular hosting companies are overselling nowadays. You can see no one is providing less than 500GB space and 5TB b/w at an average.. I do not think it is bad.. it is helpful for them even.. now they have only one plan and you have to pay if you do not need that much actually(in 99% cases almost). So, if 1 of 100 customers will use 100GB even they will be in profit since they host 99 others with the same price. I do not think it will be continued for a long time.. as already it is been a talk in general. But, for the time being it is OK. You have no other choice :)
