    BUY TO OWN
    Hello DPers,
I bet 80% of you would be renting dedicated servers from Datacenters...
Well, Here's YOUR chance to OWN your OWN server!
I have a few servers of the following config to give out:

1U Rackmount HP Server (HP DL360)
Processor: DUAL INTEL XEON 2.8GHZ(2 processors)
    , That's right, It has 2 CPUs
    Memory: 2048MB
Hard Drive: 73GB 10K RPM SCSI
    , YES..!!---> SCSI HDDs
    CDROM: YES
    NIC: 2xGigabit (10/100/1000mb) broadcom integrated.
    PRICE: $649.95

    THE SERVERS:
    http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7193/dscn1713hi1.jpg

Upon payment of the one-time fee, you then OWN the server!
You just have to pay colo fees/month after that.
The following colocation package is currently available:
    1U Rackspace
    Unlimited DataTransfer
    10Mbps port speed
Free Unlimited Reboots & OS Re-Installs
    Price: $49.95/mo

For a 100Mbps port and 3.3TB Datatransfer, a fee of $9.95/mo will be applicable

If you do not want to colo with us, you can pay shipping fees and have the server shipped to any location you want from our datacenter in P.A, U.S.A*

Such a CONFIGURATION would typically cost about $250/month at most datacenters if you consider renting it as a dedicated server!
These machines would work perfectly fine for atleast 3 years.
So let's calculate how much you're saving:

    DEDICATED SERVER:
    3 years x $250/month = $9,000 for 3 years..!!

    BUY TO OWN:
    $649.95 + [3 years x $49.95/month] = $2449 for 3 years..!!
    You Save over $6,500!

However, if used lightly the server would work fine for nearly the next 7 years!
    So just calculate your savings;)

Carriers: Level3, Cogent, Global Crossing, PCCW

    Traceable IP: 66.96.192.1
    Download Test File

    *conditions apply

    Some Other Servers I own:

    http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/1158/dscf0046vv0.jpg

NOTE: You have to be colo'd with us for atleast 2 months before you can request to have your server shipped else where ELSE a handling charge of $100 will be levied.

For hosting, internet connection more important than the server alone.

Depends on what you're doing. But as almost all have 100 Mbps you on't get clogged. The server itself tells you how much you can ppl you can host, and if they run proxies a high power server like that is pretty good.

That 100Mbps may be not redundant and dedicated. And, most users don't have 24x7 power supply and others DC can provide.
For small business, if webmaster want to host at home, they may not need a super computer.
When their business do require a super computer, they may not want to host their big business at home. ;)

@PowerExtreme: No Mate, I do not own the whole datacenter, but I have a mini Datacenter in their datacenter
I've got a load of colo space and buy bandwidth from the datacenter's backbone:)

    These are the servers:
    http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7193/dscn1713hi1.jpg

they look very much like large dvd players:)

If you want, it could be shipped to you whenever you want, but YOU must pay the shipping costs
however, i would not suggest running such a machine at home..it's a headache having to keep it right under a fan all day long etc.
it's better if you colo it to some datacenter:)

Servers are self-managed, but yes, you'll get basic, level 1 support from the datacenter technicians.

    How old are these systems?

How much are charges for hardware upgrades within the datacenter?

Systems have 2 years in production
But they were used by a company from the finance industry and have seen extremely light use through their life!
Systems are in excellent condition(which you'll see too when you get them)

NOTE: There is a RAID card already in each of the systems:)Comes free with it

Oh, I missed the hardware upgrades question
Its $10 support fee for upgrading hardware while its in the datacenter(the fee might be wiped if it is no major upgrade)
You can have the parts shipped to us...or just pay us for them and we'll upgrade your systems
All our hardware is purchased from NEWEGG
