The idea is that the LOWER your Alexa rank, the higher your traffic.

Except Alexa is so inaccurate and so inept it is totally useless and very easy to manipulate...so just don't use Alexa...

Most people don't put much weight in Alexa rank anymore because it's easy for the big boys to manipulate.

Then what's more reliable way to determine sites with high traffic? I mean, if I'm not a site owner, how can I know statistics for it?

Thing is, a lot of people still put stock in Alexa ranking because there isn't much else. So perception can be reality with it comes to attracting certain elements to your site.

Checking out a site's alexa ranking gives a very accurate picture of what kinda traffic they are getting. a site around 100k should be getting around 50k - 60k uniques per month

alexa rank is a measure of traffic but based on users using the alexa toolbar only, and as it was mentioned above, it is easy to manipulate so its pretty inaccurate, the problem is some advertising companies specifically paid blogging ones look for alexa rank to measure the site's level...

Its accurate in a majority of cases. But i have heard of friends, having blogs ranked 100 000 which is pretty high and they get 10 unique visits a day. Where 101 000 get like thousands of UV a day. It can be very inaccurate. i have said it before, but i would rather technocrati rankings, they are a lot more accurate.

does it really matter what alexa says? you just want traffic and your cpanel will tell you that.

From what i understand, Alexa rank are based on page impression and not necessarily unique visitors. So means, if you only have 10 people in your site and they keep on refreshing the page you most probably will get lower rank.

    I have heard that.

But Alexa is more advanced among traffic statistics.

Its based on both return and unique visitors. Which is good. But both these get mixed up and some strong traffic sites rank worse than weak traffic sites.

So i don't believe everything from alexa rankings.
